Our EW Systems Engineering Department has an exciting new opportunity for a highly skilled Test Engineer/Lab Manager. This position allows you the opportunity to both manage the Environmental Laboratory and perform RF testing in anechoic chambers within the Electronic Warfare (EW) Systems SPS/IEWS Hardware Department. The section specializes in the test, validation and qualification of RF / Microwave subsystems for airborne platforms. The candidate will oversee laboratory activities supporting a variety of important programs. Key interfaces will be with other sections across the Department, other Engineering disciplines, as well as internal customers leading the various programs. This position will be located in Goleta, CA. The Laboratory Manager is a key contributor to the programs and products supported by the department. These Lab Manager activities include performing or overseeing a variety of environmental tests such as thermal, vibration, humidity, explosive environment and a large variety of additional tests. The responsibilities will also include the requirement to frequently run tests with a hands-on approach. Additionally, this candidate will also perform or oversee RF testing in on-site and off-site anechoic chambers. The Laboratory Manger serves as a liaison to the programs, ensuring program success along technical, cost and schedule parameters.Other responsibilities include coordinating program staffing needs to meet demand for multiple programs. The Lab Manager will be accountable for requirements flow from specification to test. The candidate will engage regularly with program office personnel in producing cost proposals. He/she will also be responsible for ensuring lab readiness through tracking and maintaining calibration of equipment.The candidate must have an outstanding ability to provide technical guidance and act as a mentor to supporting staff. The candidate must be adept at preparing lab reports and presenting the results to internal and external customers. The candidate shall be a highly motivated “self-starter” able to lead by example, possessing strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and maintain positive relationships and satisfaction with functional and program leadership. Required Skills : Environmental Test Engineering o Interpret environmental test requirements, product specifications and write procedures based on program requirements. o Program and run chambers and electrodynamic shakers. o Troubleshoot and repair electronic and mechanical equipment. o Monitor and maintain calibration of equipment ensuring readiness. o Create basis of estimates in support of regular Bid and Proposal efforts. RF Engineering/ Test Engineering o Proficient in using VNA’s, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, high voltage power supplies. o Develop and perform tests in anechoic chambers. o Design, set up, and run antennae pattern tests. o Interpret customer requirements, write specifications, execute procedures, and write test reports. o Design, build, validate, and run functional test equipment for Engineering Validation, Quality Acceptance and Production Tests. o Troubleshoot product and test equipment anomalies to root cause. Lab Management o Familiar with Lab Operating procedures, EHS safety requirements, industrial facilities, COVID protocol, and equipment calibration. General - o Must be available 1st shift with occasional 2nd and 3rd shift assignments. o Must support occasional off-site testing. o Must be able to lift 50 pounds several times per day. o Must have Active (or active within past 2 years) DoD Secret Clearance.Security+ + Familiar with security operations. Desired Skills : o Publication and/or presentation of E/O related research in a peer-reviewed journal and/or conference. o Patents. Required Education : Typically requires a Bachelor of Science degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) from an accredited institution.This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.
