Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.LEAD AVIONICS BUILD ENGINEER (STARSHIP)As a Lead Manufacturing Engineer at SpaceX you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of space technology. You will work on avionics systems that will enable the SpaceX mission to make life inter-planetary. You will own the relationship between our development and production teams. You will provide input into the design and development of new and existing hardware and take a lead role in manufacturing and integration on our next generation launch vehicles and spacecraft.RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead a team of engineers in the new product introduction and sustaining engineering of Starship avionics hardware
Coordinate and steer the collective efforts of all electronics production technicians
Establish and analyze area metrics for trend extrapolation to drive the following:
Personnel training and development
Development and implementation of efficiency improvement projects
Optimization of product flow through the factory
Root cause analysis and the implementation of corresponding corrective action plans
Identification and elimination of defects within the area value stream
Reduction of downtime for product and personnel
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers
Stand as a technical expert in electromechanical design for manufacturability and assembly
Fully develop and implement future state production systems for all products
Oversee all process functions, document control and continuous improvement within avionics processes as assigned. This includes driving PDR, CDR and MRR deliverables, PFMEA’s, tool design and verification, make/buy decisions, new process definition and qualification, capacity and capital requirements, work instructions, specifications, supply chain development, etc.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience with end-to-end printed circuit board fabrication and assembly
Experience with electro-mechanical assembly
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree in electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, or aerospace engineering
Experience implementing design for manufacture and design for test
Demonstrated experience training and mentoring junior engineers
Demonstrated experience working in a highly adaptive and iterative environment
Ability to influence other organizations through strong engineering/business rationale and data
Ability to effectively organize, assign and track work/deliverables
Ability to develop manufacturing strategies based on specialized business needs
Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing as part of a cross-functional team
Experience with Altium Designer, NX and Teamcenter
Experience with SQL databases
Ability to define scope of work independently and execute accordingly
Ability to identify and analyze production process improvements for rate and quality
Experience with PCB, PCBA and Electromechanical assembly processes
Working experience in an AS9100 or equivalent quality system
Ability to create and deliver presentations for PDR, CDR, MRR Project Update, etc.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Minimum of 3 years in a leadership position leading a team of 5+ people
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time
Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
