We're looking for a motivated, energetic person to help with all aspects of our small oyster farm on Humboldt Bay. Candidates should enjoy working outdoors on the water in a variety of weather conditions. Work as a team and independently to achieve the goal of producing a premium product in a responsible way that values a healthy marine/estuarine environment. This is an entry-level job with room to grow that involves outdoor, physically demanding work and requires the ability to wade on mudflats while carrying heavy bags of oysters to and from boats. The position assists our small team with planting, tending, harvesting, sorting, packing, and shipping our oysters. The successful candidate will have an enthusiasm for farming that is dirty, wet and physical and take pride in producing a high-quality product for seafood counters, farmers markets and fine restaurants locally and regionally.

Responsibilities:

Plant, tend, harvest, sort, pack and ship oysters.

Operate boats, small engines, hand & power tools, forklift, truck and trailer.

Follow the safe handling practices required for a fresh, raw seafood product.

Efficiently work with the crew as well as independently to meet daily & seasonal objectives.

Light construction and repairs.

Loading oysters into culture bags at appropriate densities.

Assess the health and quality of oysters throughout their life cycle.

Assist with keeping track of inventory.

Sampling, counting, rinsing and packing oysters

Monday through Friday with opportunities for additional weekend hours. Typically, hours are 8am to 4pm with flexibility to come in an hour early or stay an hour later - work revolves around low tides.
