Program Support Specialist

Shift: Monday - Friday, 4pm-12am

Position Summary:

The Program Support Specialist is co-employed through The Betty Kwan Chinn Homeless Foundation & Sequoia Personnel Services. Under the general supervision of the Program Manager, the Program Support Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Betty’s House Family Shelter and Medical Respite facility. The Family Shelter provides shelter and case management to families experiencing homelessness. The Medical Respite program provides a safe, clean place for individuals experiencing homelessness to rest and recover after being discharged from St. Joseph Hospital.

The Program Support Specialist ensures all assigned duties are completed during the assigned shift, information is communicated to all other staff via the Communication Logs, and all policies and procedures are followed to ensure operational duties are completed and documented. The Program Support Specialist is a Mandated Reporter of child and elder abuse.

Essential Functions:

Complete all duties as assigned by checklists and Communication Log.

Ensure residents comply with rules through communication with residents and reporting and documenting rule violations.

Create a clean, welcoming, safe environment for residents and visitors by carrying out cleaning tasks and checking resident chore checklists.

Count number of meals needed, communicate to kitchen, and serve meals to residents.

Ensure proper disposal of items soiled with blood and bodily fluids.

Round on both programs at least once per hour.

Be familiar with the policies and procedures for the Family Shelter, Medical Respite Program, and the facility as a whole. Ensure policies and procedures are being followed.

Assist with any on-site emergencies: earthquake, fire, lock-down, police involvement, etc. and document incidents with an Incident Report.

Ensure cleanliness of room and bedding after residents move out to prepare the space for the next residents to move in.

Using the Orientation Checklist, orient new residents to the program.

Meet paperwork deadlines.

Take inventory of supplies and items kept in stock by either program and update the proper inventory spreadsheet.

Report all important resident information, including safety issues, resident disputes, harmful or concerning behavior, resident concerns, a resident’s plan to exit the program, serious rule violation, etc. to Program Manager and Betty Chinn immediately.

Interact and engage with individuals and families through various activities.

Create and use Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. Must also be proficient in sending/receiving e-mail.

Maintain resident confidentiality.

Attend staff meetings and other offered trainings.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Must pass a criminal background check by undergoing LiveScan fingerprinting.

One to two years of work experience in similar environment preferred.

Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of homelessness, including mental health and substance abuse issues.

Must enjoy working with children.

Prior experience working with individuals and/or families experiencing homelessness preferred.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to follow policies and procedures under pressure and in emergencies.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to send and receive e-mails.

Cooperative and friendly attitude towards residents, co-workers, visitors, etc.
