Must be able to work a variety of hours including nights and weekends. Must be able to perform heavy lifting.DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:The position tasks will vary dependent upon the shift. The shift will determine the tasks performed and the specific items to be addressed. The early shift arrives at 5am and surveys the product in the display cases to determine the freshness of the product, the product quantity and to change the fresh fruit toppings on all product needing this service. The strawberries are obtained from produce and the peaches are obtained from canned goods. Any product older than three days must be discarded as refuse. The Cake Decorator will then access the cakes to be decorated for the day from the refrigerator. At this time the Cake Decorator will also obtain all necessary frostings and fillings from the refrigerator. These products are then placed within the smaller refrigerator area by the display cases and nearer the decorating table. The Cake Decorator will then prepare and decorate the necessary desserts. Some desserts may also necessitate that they be made from scratch which would require using the mixers and assisting with baking preparation as well. The department also requires continual cleaning which includes hosing down the floors with soap and water to ensure continued cleanliness. The Cake Decorator also helps customers and assists other bakery staff.DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides customer service in a friendly, fast, and efficient manner. Interacts with and educates customers on bakery line product. Maintains cleanliness of bakery area of the store. Cleans display cases and work surfaces. Prepares and maintains bakery display areas. Splits and fills both multi layer and sheet cakes. Prepares icings, toppings, fillings and sauces for baked goods. Ices, decorates and packages cakes. Operates the bakery department equipment. Maintains high standards for product freshness and sanitation. Organize and rotate stock in the decorator’s refrigerator. Operates the label machine and the scales. Cleans bakery, baking equipment, and machinery. Maintains maximum standards of sanitation and safety including temperature controls, pull dates, and compliance with health codes. Follows department procedures and standards for quality and consistency of the finished products. Assists in training other associates, as needed. Adheres to all company and bakery operations, standards, policies, and procedures. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/LICENSE REQUIRED:Experience1-3 years as a Cake DecoratorGrocery experience is a plus.Preferred Field of Expertise Knowledge of safety and sanitation standards for large scale bakery operation Ability to read, write, and follow instructions. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others. Knowledge of basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of whole and fractional numbers, count, and decimal systems). Ability to provide on the job training in food preparation to lower level employees.
