Established, growing small to medium Riverside AV rated litigation law firm seeks an independent contractor law clerk for a part-time position. The firms handles matters in real estate, probate, civil, unlawful detainers and white collar criminal areas. Applicants with at least a general knowledge of civil law are preferred.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-Drafting pleadings including complaints, answers, motions to strike and demurrers. Applicant must posess significant law and motion drafting skills, be familiar with trial preparation as well as be comfortable with all aspects of discovery including propounding and responding as well as writing meet and confer letters.

-Drafting other legal court documents, such as oppositions, affidavits and subpoenas; transactional documents, such as trusts, wills, contracts and real estate leases.

-Preparing witness materials for case preparation. Organize interview memos, digests and other relevant documents for managing attorney review and case preparation. Prepare for depositions by preparing documents relevant to the deponent, organize exhibits, and digest transcripts to summarize highlights of a proceeding. Investigating the factual evidence of a case and preparing exhibits, charts and diagrams to display information. Communicating by phone with opposing counsel and other parties, clients, judicial administrative staff and vendors.

-Meeting with new or prospective clients, asking questions for the purpose of compiling data, and then using this data to determine the best next course of action for that client. Responsibiliites include answering calls, securing new clients and new matters, by overcoming potential client objections.

-Completing administrative forms, such as time cards and expense reports. Other duties include arranging travel plans and making court appearances if applicable.

This position requires a candidate to work independently on many different types of cases while managing demands and changing priorities. Candidate should expect to work, during business hours, minimum 20 hours per week. Compensation commensurate with experience.
