Position Summary:

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the University. The Enterprise Student Management System (ESMS) Graduate Division and Undergraduate Admissions IT is responsible for supporting the IT needs of the UC Irvine Undergraduate Admissions office and Graduate Division office. Our mission is to provide information technology support, services, and innovative solutions to ensure the success of UC Irvine's Undergraduate Admission Office and Graduate Division Office.

UCI's Office of Information Technology is looking for a seasoned Java developer to join the Graduate Division and Undergraduate Admissions IT team. In this senior-level full-stack Java developer position, you will be responsible for the enhancement and maintenance of the key systems for the Graduate Division and Undergraduate Admission office. Under the general supervision of the Graduate Division & Undergraduate Admissions IT Manager, the Java Developer applies skills as a seasoned, experienced software professional with a full understanding of industry practices, community standards and relevant policies and procedures to medium-sized projects or portions of large projects with moderate scope and complexity. Resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates competency in Java, SQL, RESTFul API, MVC pattern, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Object Oriented Programming, Apache, and Tomcat to obtain results.

Required:

Minimum three (3) years of experience leading, coordinating, and managing all aspects of project management in the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Minimum three (3) years of experience supporting homegrown software solutions. Ensure systems and services remain operational and compliant, timely, and accommodate campus growth.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Demonstrated ability to interface with management on a regular basis. Intermediate knowledge of secure software development. Demonstrated ability to contribute technical narrative to projects. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Demonstrated GitHub software repository skills. Experience developing web services (RESTful API), Service-Oriented Architecture, and API development tools such as Postman, Curl, or Swagger. Thorough experience with common Java programming tools. Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications. Strong organizational and project management skills; skilled at working independently and keeping track of ongoing problems, requests, and projects. Ability to plan, conduct, and coordinate projects. Thorough experience with the identification and use of Java code libraries and open-source forums. Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrated broad problem-solving skills. Advanced skills associated with software design, modification, implementation and deployment, including object-oriented programming concepts. Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.

Preferred:

Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.
