Aviation Power Plant/Engine Mechanic (AD)

Occupational Summary:

Services, repairs and overhauls aircraft engines and engine components to ensure airworthiness. Repairs, replaces and rebuilds aircraft engines and related components of moderate difficulty, such as installation and removal of QEC gear, replacement of FMU, Fuel Controls, gear boxes utilizing hand tools and power tools. Reads and interprets manufacturer's publications, maintenance manuals, service bulletins and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. inspects engine and engine components for fluid leaks, cracks and other damage. Troubleshoot, remove, replace and repair aircraft engine system components. Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft systems. As directed by Site Operations and Site Management, may be certified as a CDl. Shall be able to correctly prioritize workload to maintain schedules and maintenance standards on assigned projects.

Essential Job Functions:

The candidate is required to maintain and service the F/A-18 Power Plant related systems/components as required in accordance with applicable publications and governing instructions. Applies technical knowledge of Power Plants related system principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skill in restoring equipment operation, evaluates performance and reliability of prototype or production mods, and recommends changes to installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance. The Power Plants Mechanic I applies technical knowledge to solve Power Plants system problems by interpreting manufacturer's manuals or similar documents.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:
  • Candidate experience must be clearly defined on resumes by listing specific dates (month & year) and locations of relevant experience.
  • Must have completed the Navy/Marine Corps Class "C" School in Organizational Level Power Plants and Related Systems repair for the F/A-18 aircraft.
  • Minimum 36 months F/A-18 Organizational Level Power Plants experience.
  • Must have completed USN/USMC/USCG Basic Aviation Corrosion Control training.
  • F/A-18 engine operator designation strongly preferred.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a current secret level clearance or be able to obtain one and be able to maintain it throughout employment.
  • Must be available to work any shift.
