You will provide long-term CM guidance and vision; maintain, evolve, and establish CM policies and procedures; and migrate projects to a unified set of modern tools and processes. The CM Lead primarily supports the NIF Integrated Computer Control System (ICCS), also in addition to providing support and expertise to other projects. This position is in the NIF Computing (NIFC) Division in the Computing Directorate matrixed to the National Ignition Facility and Photon Sciences (NIF&PS).This position will be filled at either the SES.3 or SES.4 level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.Business needs dictate that this position requires an on-site presence multiple days a week. Therefore, telecommuting options will be limited. Job Description In this role you will:- Support software development teams with configuration management (change management, source code control), builds (such as, Java, C/C, Python, Perl, and other languages), dependency management, and workflow (such as, waterfall and agile).
- Coordinate and manage their software release processes in collaboration with ICCS and other NIF&PS teams.
- Support Software Quality Assurance (SQA) with release management including deployment of releases of any level of complexity through development, software and system integration, and production.
- Maintain and implement CM, builds, workflow, and related automation.
- Lead configuration management activities in support of NIF's 24x7 operations, which includes occasional support outside of normal business hours, including weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Architect and lead the effort to transition NIF&PS and ICCS Software configuration management and build pipeline to modern methodologies, modern tools, and CI/CD processes.
- Mentor and train team leads and developers across NIFC and NIF&PS on tools, processes, and best practices for Configuration Management, builds, and deployment.
- Work with development teams, Software Quality Assurance, Operations, Management, and other stakeholders to prepare releases for production. This includes creating deployment plans, obtaining approvals, scheduling releases and required resources, and executing the release plans to deploy, verify/test, and certify the release.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or in a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and significant related experience.
- Advanced knowledge and significant experience with modern software development processes, such as Agile and Waterfall.
- Significant experience supporting complex projects and software installations in a production environment.
- Experience with change code and build management tools and scripting, such as, Jira, Git, BitBucket, GitLab, AccuRev, Jenkins, Make, Bamboo, Maven, Python, Perl, shell (bash, csh).
- Experience with command line interaction with operating systems, such as, Linux and Windows.
- Significant experience managing multiple priorities, tasks, and resources to meet deadlines.
- Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of personnel, and the ability to work independently as well as in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, author, and present technical information, and provide advice to management and vendors.
- Expert experience with all stages of the software engineering process.
- Expert level experience scheduling and managing large and complex projects to successful completion.
- Expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to present, explain, and advise senior management and/or external sponsors and vendors.
- Knowledge of and experience with Splunk.
- Significant experience with build management tools, such as, Make, Maven, VI Package Manager (LabView), and the Perl package manager.
- Experience with AccuRev administration, including integration with other tools, upgrades, and backups.
