F5 Network and Systems Administrator. You will provide technical layer 7 application support and systems administration for information systems existing in a heterogeneous private cloud environment to solve a variety of moderately complex technical problems. This position is in the Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) Division of the Computing Directorate, in support of the Livermore Information Technology (LivIT) program.

This position will be filled at either the 393.1 or 393.2 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

In this role you will
  • Manage a private cloud application load-balancing service that spans three NNSA sites to provide global and local layer-7 high availability, and application security services to enterprise applications, collaboration tool suites, databases, mission applications, services, servers, and core infrastructure componentry.
  • Architect highly available and secure application/service load-balancing solutions and application infrastructures in collaboration with application and service owners.
  • Be responsible for ensuring the F5 configurations remain consistent with the global network architecture and security posture, in collaboration with program network & security engineers.
  • Leverage orchestration/automation utilities (e.g., F5 BigIQ, AS3, Ansible) for distributing and enforcing standard configurations, supporting patching, and upgrading new software and configuration changes across multiple sites.
  • Provide advanced systems administration support in both Linux and Windows server environments in support of ensuring proper security compliance, patch level, and adherence to our configuration management standards.
  • Evaluate and recommend procurements of hardware and software in support of stipulated system requirements in collaboration with management, customers, and team members.
  • Enforce security and systems administration policy requirements, such as vulnerability remediation, and system build standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities at the 393.2 Level
  • Manage multiple advanced parallel tasks and priorities of customers and stakeholders to ensure deadlines are met, while leveraging other team members' skills.
  • Apply in-depth technical expertise to solve complex technical problems and develop solutions using judgment in determining methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria.
  • Develop tools and procedures to facilitate complex automation efforts as well as cross-platform/environment monitoring solutions.
Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or the equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
  • Extensive experience in network system design, configuration, implementation, documentation, and operations.
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of and experience with network routing and VLANs.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and/or Cisco Certified Network Professional Certifications (CCNP).
  • Familiarity with common network DevOps technologies and frameworks (Ansible/Python/CICD, etc).
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of and experience in firewall configuration and maintenance.
  • Proficient interpersonal and verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to work independently and interact with customers and team members.

Additional qualifications at the 393.2 level
  • Significant experience developing advanced architecture solutions.
  • Highly advanced troubleshooting skills and experience solving problems by analyzing protocol interactions collected in packet traces.
  • Experience training and mentoring team members in network engineering and architecture.
