Job Description We have an opening for a Software Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer. You will be responsible for performing QA testing, researching best practices in industry, developing prototypes, and providing frameworks to automate the testing and configuration management of web applications which support institutional solutions in the web, search, and content spaces. This position is in the Information Technology Solutions Division (ITSD) in the Computing Directorate, which supports the LivIT program.

This position will be filled at either level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

In this role you will
  • Develop complex processes, scripts, and frameworks to automate testing of all tiers of a number of COTS and custom developed applications.
  • Perform automated testing for the User Interfaces (UI's), service tier, and back-end, to ensure the product is feature complete and error free.
  • Produce clear and meaningful reports to compare test results against defined used cases.
  • Collaborate with developers and other project team members to develop test plans, analyze test results, locate problems, identify root causes, and participate in recommended solutions.
  • Provide technical assistance in the research and development of software code to identify and isolate potential risks in the web applications.
  • Exercise independent judgement to define, develop, and implement original solutions to complex problems of a broad and diverse scope at the team, directorate, or institutional level.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the SES.3 Level
  • Develop advanced automation tests using industry best practices.
  • Provide advanced technical assistance in identifying infrastructure component bottlenecks and constraints.
  • Test and support a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment Model leveraging industry best practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer or engineering related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Broad, in depth knowledge and experience working as a dedicated Test Automation Engineer, including testing and supporting a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment Model.
  • Proficient knowledge of test automation scripts, including designing, creating, and using programming languages, such as Java, with the ability to write JUnit tests.
  • Proficient experience with Selenium.
  • Comprehensive experience using a relational database.
  • Knowledge of regression, integration, performance, load, and stress testing.
  • Comprehensive experience working in a fast-paced Agile development environment with the ability to effectively manage concurrent technical tasks with minimal instructions and direction.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills and effective interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of personnel and collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Additional qualifications at the SES.3 Level
  • Advanced experience developing and implementing test automation using industry best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of industry best practices as a dedicated Test Automation Engineer, including testing and supporting a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment Model.
  • Substantial experience testing web applications.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Liferay DXP and Elasticsearch.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Angular, Bootstrap, REST, and SCRUM.
  • Experience with cloud native CI/CD Pipelines.
