We are seeking a Scouting Manager for State Farm's Silicon Valley-based Scouting team who can successfully identify and evaluate relevant, compelling early-stage companies, then work with State Farm Ventures and other internal stakeholders across our organization to refer the most promising of these companies. This is a fast-paced, strategic role that involves working with many cutting-edge startups, VC firms, accelerators, and the broader start-up ecosystem

A Day In The Life Of A Scouting Manager:The Silicon Valley-based Scouting Manager is responsible for identifying and working with a network of exciting startups, top-tier established organizations, as well as venture capitalists, incubators/accelerators, and premier educational institutions to identify emerging technologies, products, services, and solutions for State Farm and our customers.

Qualifications

Necessary Qualifications:
  • Broad business acumen across a range of industries. Working knowledge of the insurance industry is a plus.
  • Strong associative thinking skills. (I.e., able to "connect the dots" for myriad of implications associated with new tech, products, solutions, etc.)
  • Demonstrates significant curiosity in their work.
  • Demonstrated learning agility and curiosity.
  • Excellent strategic and critical thinking abilities
  • Proven track record of effectively collaborating and influencing across organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Tech background helpful; both depth and breadth, weighted toward mobile, APIs, AI/ML, cyber security, IoT, data analytics, blockchain, and edge computing. (3+ years working with startups)
  • Good working knowledge of State Farm's core business lines, distribution models, strategies, and operational challenges. (3+ years working at large organizations)
  • Able to effectively represent State Farm with entrepreneurs, senior executives, venture capitalists, and other external stakeholders.
  • Experience speaking to large groups and/or participating in industry panels for large audiences.
  • Comfortable utilizing leadership courage to challenge the status quo when appropriate.

Location: Los Altos, Palo Alto or the surrounding Bay area in California
