The Genetic Counselor will provide cancer genetic counseling following established genetic counseling practice guidelines in a variety of clinical locations in support of Cedars-Sinai Cancer. Assesses recurrence risks and recommends medical or genetic testing based upon analysis of risk, benefit and cost.

Ensures proper completion of counseling paperwork.

Interacts and communicates regularly with the medical geneticist(s).

Responsible for the communication of both normal and abnormal results and coordinating appropriate follow-up with medical geneticist.

May provide case management for complex genetic cases, including coordinating medical recommendations, testing, and ongoing counseling.

Provides crisis intervention and psychosocial counseling regarding genetic conditions; makes referrals for ongoing care and support.

Acts as consultant to referring physicians regarding highly specialized genetic information pertinent to the management of their patients.

Participates in regular staff meetings; works to establish her/himself as a team member, providing coverage for colleagues as necessary.

Provides genetic counseling in accordance w/applicable standards of professional care, e.g., compliance with GDB/AFP Program regulations. Attends continuous education courses, attends meetings, and reviews medical literature. Stays current in GC field.

Requirements:Masters Degree in Genetic Counseling.

ABGC eligible or certified (or equivalent). Expected to obtain ABGC/ABMG certification.

Experience:Open to new graduates with zero to two (0-2) years experience in genetic counseling.

Ability to work independently. Demonstrates refined analytic and diagnostic reasoning skills. Ability to clearly explain complex medical information in both verbal and written form.

Demonstrates organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Computer experience preferred. Bilingual skills a plus.
