Part-time Summer Camp Pediatric Nurse (RN) (Harvey Mudd College) (Harvey Mudd College)

California, Los angeles 00000 Los angeles USA

Vacancy expired!

Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics, a project of the Art of Problem Solving Initiative, Inc., is seeking a part-time and on-call health director for a program that gives everyone a chance to excel in mathematics. We are a free summer math program for underserved LA middle school students who want to get access to more challenging math and have a great summer. The program will take place at Harvey Mudd College in summer 2019 and is a 3-week program with around 40 students.

This job is ideal for someone who wants to relax this summer and loves kids. We are asking you to be on campus for five hours each day (roughly 8am-1pm) during peak activity times, but students spend most of that time in class and incidents are rare. You may spend that time relaxing, but you're also welcome to join in our activities and bond with campers. When not on-campus, we ask that you are available for phone consultations to advise our staff if any incidents develop.

Job responsibilities include:

Review student medical records before the summer. Verify that immunizations are up-to-date and advise the Site Director of any medical conditions that require special attention.

Attend staff training before the summer to learn procedures and give basic advice to staff for responding to medical issues (June 21 or 22).

Meet each student as they arrive at the program site and collect any medications they brought with them.

Be on-site approximately 5 hours/day, including the morning (for any students taking medications) from June 23-July 14. The specific hours are flexible based on your needs and the program's needs, and can be fully arranged ahead of time.

When not on-site, remain on-call to advise staff for any other issues.

Supervise the return of medications to students at the conclusion of the summer.

We are a small program (just 40 students) with a very close-knit community of students discovering that they love math for the first time. In past years, the role has been very relaxed because the program is so small, and so you would have plenty of time to yourself or to join in on program activities and meet the students socially. You're welcome at all camp activities, and we hope you will see this as an opportunity to become part of this community as well. With just five hours of commitment per day, you would also have the flexibility to have most of the day free.

The pay will be $25/hour for an LPN and $30/hour for an RN. Your expected hours would be: 4 hours for reviewing medical records, 2 hours for staff training, 2 hours meeting students when they arrive, 5 hours/day for 20 program days (100 hours), 5 hours on-call time, and 2 hours returning student medication at the end for a total of approximately $2875 (LPN) or $3450 (RN).

To apply, please submit your resumé and cover letter to our email. Must be certified as an RN, LPN or EMT in the state of California. Priority will be given to RNs and LPNs. You are also welcome to contact us for more information.
