The internship, a "virtual literary assistantship," involves a full range of assistance in the publishing and entertainment businesses for Dr. Kenneth Atchity's several companies:

Specifically, interns will primarily perform reading, which includes providing "coverage" of screenplays and novels under consideration for representation and/or production. There will also be opportunities to do proposal research, film research and internet implementation duties on specific literary publishing and film/television projects and on the Story Merchant publishing slate.

Those with experience in the field or who have studied film and/or literature in school will be considered for the internship above those with little to no experience. Opportunity will be sought to further educate the intern in the commercial literary and film industry fields.

If living outside L.A., the work can be done by internet and telephone, but preference is also given to those applicants who live in the L.A. area and can come into the office at least once per week for one-on-one work with Dr. Atchity and his executives.

Punctuality, energy, drive, responsibility, and entrepreneurialism are essentials. Intern must be familiar with WORD, MS Excel, Final Draft, and social networking; must commit to completing at least one coverage minimum per week (anywhere from 2-8 hours), and must commit to a minimum of sixteen weeks, though longer internships, if for academic credit or career coaching opportunities, are particularly welcome. If the intern cannot adhere to the coverage minimum, they will be promptly dropped from the program.

Dr. Atchity is a Yale alumnus (Ph.D., comparative literature), producer of 30 films, author of numerous books, editor, writing coach, and former professor of comparative literature and communications who has worked in the world of commercial storytelling for nearly forty years. He currently has dozens of projects in development with nearly every publisher, studio, and production company, and is publisher of Story Merchant Books, "an incubator of new voices," which has launched over eighty books in the past twenty-four months.
