Aerospace is seeking a strategic, innovative, and driven leader to head the User Systems subdivision within the Communications and Navigation Capabilities Division. The Principal Director is responsible for providing technical leadership and managing Aerospace efforts in support of current and future acquisition programs to rapidly develop and field resilient Position Navigation and Timing (PNT) solutions to end-user platforms for warfighters in all domains: land, sea, air, space, and cyber. This position covers the full range of GPS User Equipment technology, from intellectual property, Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC), single board microelectronics and Host Application Equipment (HAE), to user platform integration. Because it is critical to every element of the kill chain, developing and fielding new PNT technology necessitates collaboration with all DoD, IC, interagency, and international organizations to solve the enterprise's hardest problems, the responsibilities of this position span the entire PNT device life cycle: research and development, prototyping, requirements development, source selection, acquisition program systems engineering, developmental and operational test, user training and product support and troubleshooting, mission integration GPS space and control segments, and Enterprise Integration with other space capabilities. The Principal Director is responsible for collaboration across SSC and multiple Aerospace organizations to ensure successful integration of the current PNT programs of record, delivery of PNT user capabilities, as well as providing technical leadership and expertise to identify and drive resiliency initiatives and future investments to outpace the threat. The Principal Director is also responsible for proactively engaging with partner organizations, including the Space Systems Integration Office and the Space Analysis Warfare Center, to provide resources and technical expertise in support of PNT Force Design, architecture analyses, innovative and resilient PNT futures, and the development and execution of digital engineering initiatives.The selected candidate will be expected to provide proactive support to the customer and cultivate productive working relationships in a fast-paced multi-organizational and multi-contractor environment. What You'll Be Doing- Leading and managing Aerospace's organizational support to Space Systems Command GPS User Equipment Acquisition Delta, including remote personnel
- Providing technical leadership within teams of Government, Aerospace, support contractors, and other FFRDC personnel to monitor acquisition program efforts, identify and resolve technical and performance integration risks
- Engaging with the intelligence community, DoD laboratories, test agencies, operational Commands, and industry and professional organizations to keep abreast of threats, warfighter operational practices, and emerging technologies
- Assisting customers in identifying high value work for the portfolio, translating customer requests into technical priorities to plan and manage the Aerospace team
- Building and sustaining a diverse and highly capable workforce through hiring, staff performance reviews, career development, and mentoring
- Setting organizational and guiding individual goals and direction, monitoring progress, and providing feedback for staff development
- Managing budgets, allocating resources, establishing priorities and ensuring execution to plans and commitments
- Reporting the organization's activities, progress, and achievements through written and oral reports
- Moderate level of travel may be required, possibly international
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or an appropriate technical discipline
- 12 years of relevant professional experience in systems engineering, design and/or acquisition
- A strategic vision to transition from current Military GPS User Equipment (MGUE) programs to accelerate delivery of future military PNT capabilities
- Exceptional leadership, strategic perspective, initiative, innovative spirit, team-building, and the ability to foster effective relationships with government customers and their contractors across the enterprise
- Demonstrated ability identify and solve the most difficult and challenging technical problems utilizing multidisciplinary teams with agility and collaboration, leading to timely and successful outcomes
- Ability to make time-critical mission success decisions with ambiguous or incomplete data
- Active Secret clearance and ability to be granted top-secret/SCI and SAP clearances, which are issued by the U.S. Government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
- Deep knowledge and leadership experience in one or more of the following areas: GPS space, control or user segments; GPS-INS integration; Alternative and complementary PNT concepts, including Multi-GNS; Microelectronics manufacturing, assembly and test; Electronic warfare, operations or test; Systems Engineering, requirements development, verification, and technical risk; Major acquisition programs; Practical experience with GPS and PNT technology in operational environments; Modern software development and testing; Open systems architecture and sensor fusion
- Knowledge and experience in application of Digital Engineering, Model Based Systems Engineering, and integrated system testing
- 15 or more years of progressively responsible professional engineering/scientific experience
- Advanced technical degree in engineering, science, or mathematics
