Working within an assigned geographical area, Building Inspectors learn to or perform a variety of building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, floodplain, fire and life safety visual inspections. They work cooperatively with on-site contractors/builders to identify and correct issues, and issue and signoff on correction notices. The ideal candidate has multiple years of experience in building/construction trades:
Issuing permits for the construction of improvements, and applying provisions of the California Building, Housing, Plumbing, Electrical and Mechanical codes; Fire Safe Standards; and related State and County codes and ordinances
Making routine preliminary onsite inspections of new construction and existing building and structures; and reviewing plans/specifications and recognizing construction which deviates from them
Exercising excellent judgment and a common sense approach to addressing customer service challenges
