Mendocino Wine Company and Parducci Wine Cellars, a family owned winery located in Ukiah, is seeking a Lab Technician to join our team. Parducci Wine Cellars is Mendocino Countys oldest winery, producing legendary wine “ expressing both varietal character and terroir “ for 87 years. We are Californias first carbon neutral winery, producing both conventional and certified Organic and Biodynamic wines for our own brands and custom clients; from our own certified Estate vineyards and contracted vineyards. Our winery operates on high standards and broad vineyard cultivation practices that support the health of the vines and local ecosystem as a whole. We believe that quality starts in the vineyard. Better wines come from healthier vines.

Mendocino Wine Companys Lab Technician position is responsible for providing analysis and quality control in all activities concerned with the production of wine.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

GENERAL DUTIES:

Performs analysis for quality control using various lab equipment and techniques

Performs analysis and enters data for Bottling quality assurance activities

Prepares and maintains stock of chemical solutions for trials and analysis

Maintain database of analysis for monthly quality assurance, using wine tracking software and Excel

Communicates with Winemaking team and Cellar Masters on analysis results

Maintains the lab in a state of cleanliness and readiness at all times

Responsible for maintaining inventory and requesting purchase of lab supplies as needed

Responsible for general instrument and apparatus maintenance and calibration

Performs work at a safe and consistent pace

Participates in regular lab meetings

HARVEST RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares grape maturity juice samples and performs analysis of grape samples

Performs analysis on received juice and must samples, fermentations, and finished wines

Enters results of grape sample, tank juice and must, and fermentation analysis into spreadsheets

Assures general quality control on all new wines

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum Associates or Bachelors degree in chemistry, enology or related field required, or equivalent experience required. Previous experience in a wine laboratory required. Detail oriented and strong organizational skills required. Science-minded individual with good working knowledge of laboratory practices and analytical instrumentation required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures in English. Ability to record data in spreadsheets and winery inventory database, as well as keep a written log. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic math skills required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally

required to sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near laboratory equipment and may be exposed to hot and/or cold work environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must not have a fear of heights.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: MWC is a small, fast paced, family owned entrepreneurial company. The ability to work in a fast paced work environment with all levels of personalities within the organization is required. This position requires the ability to be a team player who is also able to act independently with a minimum amount of supervision. The ability to be solution oriented with excellent follow through skills is essential in this position.

Candidate must be 21 years of age; a valid California Drivers License with clean driving record is required.
