Starting salary up to $42.04/hour ($87,742/year) plus a cash allowance of approximately $600/month

These campuses encompass the County Administration Center, which includes the Main Adult Detention Facility, the Airport Complex, the Veterans' Memorial Buildings, and the Chanate and Los Guilicos Campuses. In general, these facilities were constructed during the 1950's and 1960's and require extensive work to maintain and operate.
The Building Mechanic position requires thorough knowledge of one or more building maintenance or engineering trade areas, and will be responsible for the upkeep of County buildings and equipment, performing tasks such as painting, construction, maintenance, remodeling, and repairs.
The ideal candidates will be able to perform journey-level work in one (two for II level) of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, central mechanical plant operations and service, boilers, electronic systems with an emphasis on low voltage controls, building automation or security electronics, and roof leak detection and repair. Additionally, they will possess:A background in performing service and experience troubleshooting issues
Knowledge of the occupational hazards of various trades
Strong customer service skills, as well as strong written and oral communication skills, to provide
support to system users
The ability to innovate to drive tasks to completion utilizing safe work practices
An aptitude for effectively managing work priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced
environmentNote: This position will be required to have access to Sheriff's Office and/or Probation Department facilities and/or view data or work with information systems for these departments. This requires that a more extensive "Security Clearance" will be performed after hire. Successful completion of the probationary period will be contingent upon passing the security clearance, which includes a Live Scan fingerprint based check of California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) criminal records.
