DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
Under general supervision of the Director of Maintenance, Transportation and Operations, and
direction of the Head Warehousekeeper, the Delivery Person receives, stores, distributes, and
picks up a variety of educational supplies, materials and equipment, and mail. Performs other
related duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF WORK (Note: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work
performed in positions allocated to this class. The examples of work performed are neither restricted to nor all
encompassing of the duties to be performed under this job title.)
Picks up and delivers prepared food and hot ovens to schools.
Operates a one-ton truck with box-type bed.
Operates a forklift.
Picks up, sorts and delivers mail to schools and other sites.
Operates postage machine.
Picks up and delivers instructional supplies, equipment and furniture.
Performs warehouse duties.
Other related duties as assigned.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (At time of application)
Knowledge of traffic laws which apply to the operation of trucks.
Ability to operate a truck skillfully and safely.
Ability to perform minor service to a truck.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions and to learn and remember locations, routes
and postage regulations and procedures.
Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor, such as loading and unloading, lifting and
carrying; excellent vision for driving.
Ability to maintain insurability to drive a District vehicle.
Ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
REQUIREMENTS: Class 3 (or C) Calif. Drivers License and a good driving record verified by
a DMV printout.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
One year of experience in truck or bus driving and/or delivery work. High school
diploma or G.E.D certificate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May be performed with or without reasonable accommodation)
Speak, read and understand sufficiently to successfully receive/provide information
to/from students, supervisors, co-workers, the public, etc.
Physical strength/agility sufficient to perform a wide variety of frequent physical tasks
including moving equipment/furniture, operating equipment, lifting, stooping, bending.
Sufficient skills to be licensed by the State of California to operate a motor vehicle.
