Facebook Reality Labs focuses on delivering Facebook's vision through Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). The compute performance and power efficiency requirements of Virtual and Augmented Reality require custom compute pipelines and custom silicon. Facebook Silicon team is driving the state-of-the-art forward with breakthrough work in graphics, computer vision, machine learning, displays and sensing. Our chips will enable AR & VR devices where our real and virtual world will blend to deliver far more impressive experiences. We believe the only way to achieve our goals is to look at the entire stack, from transistor, through architecture, to firmware, and algorithms.As part of the AR Graphics team, this position focuses on one or more aspects of graphics pipeline architecture in the areas of: presence rendering, telepresence, neural rendering, AR gaming architecture, and graphics system architecture. The candidate will work with a highly cross-functional team to define an end-to-end system solution.The ideal candidate for this role will have an excellent grasp on system architecture, rendering techniques, gaming engines, GPU architecture, thermally constrained performance optimization on mobile devices, comfortable in operating in a cross-functional environment, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.

  • Lead architecture for a new graphics pipeline for AR products, and bring up new novel immersive visual user experiences into our devices
  • Work with product and engineering teams to define technology roadmap for new critical usages like presence rendering or AR gaming
  • Work across disciplines to explore solution space and set a direction based on product and silicon KPI's
  • Work cross-functionally with SW & HW teams to develop and integrate solution into product
  • Travel both domestically and internationally to work with cross-functional partner teams
  • Works effectively as an individual and in a multidisciplinary international team

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences or Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree
  • 5+ years of experience as a system architect or graphics pipeline architect
  • Experience in evaluating system and silicon trade-offs such as power, performance, silicon area, board area, and image quality
  • Experience ramping up new complex technology from scratch

  • Experience with thermally constrained performance optimization on embedded devices
  • Experience with HW-SW co-design
  • Experience with game development and/or game engines
  • Experience dealing with ambiguity in a fast changing consumer electronics field
  • Experience collaborating and/or leading in a team environment
  • Knowledge of industry trends and disruptive technologies
  • Results oriented, self-motivated, proactive with demonstrated creative & critical thinking
