Your Mission: Propulsion Test Engineer seeking a Propulsion Systems Avionics Test Engineer. This position will be responsible for the "hands-on" development and operation of Hardware-In-The-Loop testing of propulsion avionics components (including controllers, valves, and instrumentation) This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at the aerospace facility in Mojave, California.
- Development of avionics hardware-in-the-loop test bench setups per Engineering specification and requirements, to include the Rocket Motor Controller Test Bench and electronics for other Propulsion Component development, test, and qualification setups.
- Responsible for designing, fabricating and maintaining Propulsion electronic hardware and systems, to include flight hardware, test setups, and ground support equipment.
- Fabricating electrical harnesses to Engineering schematics and/or drawings, and according to appropriate DoD or NASA standards.
- Maintaining and updating electrical schematics under Engineering direction, including release thru Agile, or other configuration management systems.
- Execute procedures for calibration of electrical instrumentation such as pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gages, load cells, etc. Responsible for maintaining calibration records.
- Development and specification of electronic control and indicator panels/boxes per Engineering requirements.
- Specification and installation of strain gages, strain gage amplifiers, and associated hardware per Engineering requirements.
- Specification and installation of accelerometers and associated hardware per Engineering requirements.
- Specification, configuration, and setup of National Instruments hardware, including specific modules and chassis.
- Maintain and upgrade Test Facility Data Acquisition and Control Systems, including all documentation.
- Maintain and upgrade Propulsion Operations Demonstrator electronics, instrumentation, and electrical harnesses including all documentation.
- Support integration of electronic test hardware and software, working closely with Test software engineering and development.
- Operate and maintain National Instruments LabVIEW and VeriStand software applications in support of Test activities
- Support pre-hot fire test Rocket Systems Checkouts, Rocket Motor Controller checkouts, Pressurization System Controller Checkouts, etc., to include troubleshooting and problem resolution.
- Maintain and manage the Propulsion Avionics Laboratory, to include keeping an inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Participate in electronics and DACS software training, as required.
- Support rocket motor Production testing and automation, as required
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
- 3+ years of relevant experience is preferred (will consider less with MS degree)
- Flight hardware assembly, vehicle integration & hardware-in-the-loop testing experience
- Some experience controlling high pressure valving and solenoids
- 2-3 years' experience with National Instruments Data Acquisition and Control Systems required
- 2-3 years' experience with Matlab and Labview required
- Experience with Simulink, Veristand and C/C programming
- Ability to read and create circuit, harness, and instrumentation schematics
- Familiarity with electrical hardware and fabrication of simple circuits and harnesses
- Excellent organizational, communication and problem solving skills
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
- Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods 9 hours min.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces.
- Physically able to handle items weighing up to 40lbs (unassisted).
