Job Description: Actuary
Capital Insurance Group is seeking a candidate to join our Analytics Division. You will work alongside our creative and entrepreneurial individuals in Monterey, CA. We look to partner with a candidate who fits with the CIG culture, excels as a decision enabler, and can effectively collect and communicate results to key stakeholders. Projects will come from multiple actuarial disciplines.
Understanding the Role:
As a leader and senior member of the Actuarial team, you will be expected to take on supervisory and mentorship responsibilities. To be successful in the role, you will need to be a highly effective communicator, lead projects and teams of highly technical individuals, and consistently deliver on project outcomes and timelines. You have proven that you can lead large-scale projects from the building phase all the way through to the implementation phase and can effectively work with members of other departments. A key skill at this level is identifying when further investigation is needed and proactively completing the necessary studies. You will be responsible for managing multiple direct reports.
Pricing Conduct sound actuarial analyses and support findings, such as trend identification and overall rate adequacy, as part of the semi-annual rate review process.
Reserving Utilize actuarial reserving methods to project losses to ultimate as part of the quarterly reserve review process.
Advanced Analytics Understand multivariate predictive modeling and machine learning techniques (e.g. GLMs, regression trees) and how they can effectively be applied in insurance.
Enterprise Risk Management Support concentration and catastrophe risk management efforts.
Dashboarding Tell a story with numbers. Create interactive and dynamic dashboards using Tableau to provide insightful information and enable data-driven decisions from key stakeholders.
Reporting Complete and distribute business reporting. Understand business users needs and improve efficiency and deliverables. Will also fulfill statistical reporting and other third-party data needs.
Education Actively pursue research and education development opportunities. You will have access to a number of continuing education programs offered at CIG, including the Actuarial Study Program.
Leadership You will have opportunities to work on highly visible projects. You will have considerable freedom to pitch ideas and change the status quo.
Feedback Department and peer leaders will provide feedback to continually develop strengths and address areas of improvement to achieve a new level of success.
Education & Experience:
Possesses a Bachelor or Masters degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Statistics, or related quantitative subjects
Five years of Actuarial experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility over time required. Seven years preferred
Commercial Lines experience required
Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) required
Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) preferred
Qualifications
Experience using SQL and a comprehensive understanding of relational databases is required
Advanced knowledge of R, Python, or another statistical software is preferred
Demonstrated ability to implement findings from predictive modeling analyses
Excel and VBA spreadsheet proficiency required
Complies with professionalism standards set by the Casualty Actuarial Society
Experience with data visualization software (e.g. Tableau) is a plus
