Description:

This key role will supervise the Healing Arts and Somatics department of the Esalen Institute, Massage School, and the Practitioners Association. This position will report to the Director of Healing Arts and Somatics and is a strategic member of the operations team.

What will this role do?

Effectively supervise the team of practitioners to assure the provision of quality bodywork, while maintaining Esalens core mission and values.

Oversee ongoing employee training programs and practices to ensure the continue professional development of Esalen Practitioners

Provide superior customer service to practitioner clients and be the first responder to any client complaints or concerns

Support reservationists and office staff handling reservation requests either in person or through telephonic reservation systems

Support and contribute to practitioner hiring process and selections

Perform personnel management tasks such as verification of licensing, performance, accountability and improvement plans and disciplinary actions

Ensure effective communication and teamwork is cultivated within the department, and between the Healing Arts Practitioner department and all other Esalen departments

Ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of the existing practitioner/client booking system and work with the IT System Administrator in the creation of a computerized system

Accountable for ensuring the quantity and type of services offered are adequate to meet the client needs

Completion of daily checklists and preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports

Ensure timely provisioning of materials and supplies to practitioners including daily inventory and ordering

Ensure the cleanliness and appearance of the massage space and supply rooms meet the standards defined

Other various tasks as assigned

Qualifications + Requirements + Skills:

Three years direct experience required working with the general public, as a bodywork practitioner or supervisor

Knowledgeable about Esalen bodywork and the qualities of presence, touch and healing that Esalen practitioners are expected to provide their clients

General knowledge of bodywork industry and specific knowledge of California practitioner regulations

Experience and a proven record with strategic planning and implementation

Proven ability to work responsibly within a budget

Computer proficiency with data management

Experience working within the culture and organization of Esalen, or similar community based organization is preferred

Proven ability to build and motivate a team of professionals in a creative, collaborative and direct way

Flexible and comfortable in taking responsibility, being held accountable and making decisions

Strong listening skills, with empathy and common sense

Grounded, well organized and flexible

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a physically demanding environment; ability to lift up to 30 pounds; maneuver on uneven ground, stand for long periods of time; sitting at a desk and working on computers and answering phones.

Compensation:

The pay for this non-exempt position is commensurate with experience. This role includes a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and paid time off.
