SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Refrigeration Technician will conduct daily equipment rounds, perform routine inspections, and carry out preventative maintenance on ammonia refrigeration systems and the wastewater treatment equipment in a safe, productive, and reliable manner. Under supervision, this person will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration equipment. Other tasks assigned may include assisting the refrigeration contractor during pump down and dismantling of existing systems. The refrigeration technician will complete all required routine paperwork including but not limited to daily inspection and PM logs, delivery logs, and wastewater flow reporting.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform housekeeping of various equipment and mechanical systems.

Perform labeling, tagging and system verification checks.

Conduct daily equipment walkthrough to monitor and record equipment operating parameters for the refrigeration and waste water systems. Focus direction for predictive and preventive maintenance measures to avoid and eliminate downtime of systems.

Maintain and adjust mechanisms to control level of fluid, pressure and temperature in system.

Respond to emergency calls regarding refrigeration on production floor.

Provide backup technical support for compressed air systems, nitrogen systems and generator equipment.

Dismantles malfunctioning system and test components using electrical mechanical and pneumatic testing equipment.

Assist the building and equipment maintenance teams with general building repairs, electrical troubleshooting and repairs, and other general maintenance activities.

Complete work orders for tracking of all associated repairs and preventative maintenance activities, to include those completed by outside contractors.

Perform IIAR bulletin 109 inspections for the ammonia system equipment.

Participate in incident and accident investigations if they arise.

Fill in for coverage for other technician positions during their leave.

Capability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including offshifts, weekends, nights and holidays.

Perform nonroutine tasks that support the business needs as assigned.

Assist the Buyer/Scheduler in ordering of required parts as needed.

Assist the Receiving Dept. in operation and training of the vacuum cooling system.

Assist with internal growth and training of other mechanics and technicians in the safe repair and operation of the refrigeration system.

Perform various other duties as directed, including assistance with other departmental issues. Perform nonroutine tasks that support the business needs as assigned.

Proactively assist team members, managers and employees as needed and cooperate with supervisors and managers and ensure compliance with all Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Hazard Communication, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21  Section 110

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Read and follow blueprints, drawings, schematics and ladder diagrams.

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Detail Oriented “ Attention to detail, ability to focus on the project or task at hand and consistently deliver error free results.

Working knowledge of basic protective equipment requirements, LockOut/TagOut, Fall Protection, OSHA, FDA, and GMP as they apply to maintenance personnel.

Five (5) year minimum experience with repair, troubleshooting, installation and upkeep of

industrial refrigeration systems, preferably in the fresh produce industry

Five (5) year minimum experience as a vacuum tube/12 pallet operator strongly preferred

Seasonal travel to Yuma, AZ & Salinas, CA - REQUIRED.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATION/FORMAL TRAINING:

Associate Degree in HVACRefrigeration, Trade School Certification, or equivalent a plus.

Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs) strongly preferred.

Intermediate computer skills, including MS Office, Outlook required.

Ability to operate and repair ammonia system components, ammonia system electrical controls and computerized refrigeration monitoring and control programs.

RETA, CIRO or CARO certification a plus.
