Position Title: Value-Added Packing Specialist

Location: Salinas, CA

POSITION SUMMARY AND OVERVIEW

Value-Added Packaging Specialist is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, replacing and modifying all processing, packaging and facility equipment with optimal quality and efficiency. Responsible for the training supervision and training of PMO’s efficiently and accordingly with company internal policies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A. Required: High School diploma or equivalency (such as a Technical degree) required; specific technical training to support the Maintenance skill summary.

Preferred: BA/BS, in Operations Management preferred or 7 years related work experience 3-5 years supervisory experience in a production environment involving efficiency improvement/monitoring with strong safety and quality management desired. Food processing experience preferable.

Strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage, motivate, and train people.

Excellent oral and written communications skills,

Bilingual/Bi-literate (English – Spanish) Required.

Dynamic, hands-on ability to work in an extremely fast-paced, team-oriented food-processing environment.

Must have the ability to make decisions, maintain regular and acceptable attendance, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and to accept constructive criticism.

Flexibility to work on a variety of shifts.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other computer software programs as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Able to stand for several hours, reaching, bending, and pushing boxes on conveyor assembly (if need it). Must be able to work in environmental factors that include noise, cold weather. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and gangways on a frequent basis and be able to work while standing on a continuous basis. Ability to enter confined spaces, following all safety procedures, while in performance of job duties. Must be able to communicate by using and hearing 2-way radio. Have dexterity and ability to maneuver equipment in tight working spaces.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces. Exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db. May be exposed to all chemicals used in a Value-Added Packing Food Processing Facility. Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but are not limited to:

B. High level of expertise in packaging machines that include being able to operate, repair and maintain packaging equipment.

C. Shall be capable of troubleshooting, electrical, electronics and pneumatics.

D. Knowledgeable in interlocks, conveyors, Ishida weigh scales, SSC (twin machines), MDT (single machines) and conveyors.

E. Ability to perform preventative maintenance as needed.

F. Knowledgeable in motors, gearboxes, industrial controls, PLC programs and logic controls.

G. Knowledgeable on tape machines (carton sealer equipment 3M and Little David).

H. Ability to operate, repair and maintain ink jet printers. Position Skills & Qualifications:

I. Ability to apply advanced skills and may develop advanced skills using tools and equipment appropriate for the position or specialization.

J. Adapts procedures, processes, tools, equipment and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.

K. Duties and tasks reflect substantial variety and complexity.

M. May serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.

N. Works under general supervision.

O. Minimum 2-4 years’ experience with industrial, high speed processing, packaging, weighing, filling and inspection equipment OR minimum one year technical training/school

P. Ability to use a multi-meter and other measurement instruments.

Q. Ability to troubleshoot PLC controls, such as Allen-Bradley, GE Fanuc.

R. Fabricate and modify parts using shop equipment; utilizing sanitary welding equipment procedures Ability to work with computer programs, such as Word and Excel.

S. Ability to demonstrate proficient fabrication and welding systems.
