Job Title: Therapist/Intern

Hours: 40 hours / week, non-exempt

Salary: $29.00 - $32.00 / hour depending on experience and certification

About the Agency

The Monterey County Rape Crisis Center (MCRCC) is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to provide ongoing advocacy, support and healing for all victims and survivors of sexual assault, human trafficking and child abuse; and to prevent sexual violence in our community through education.

Overview

Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Therapist/Intern provides individual and group counseling to victims and survivors of sexual assault, human trafficking and child abuse and their significant others.

The Therapist/intern conveys empathy, respect, and compassion during therapy sessions and in any interactions with clients and the public. The Therapist/Intern is a member of a high-performing team that supports survivors and significant others through case coordination, case management, Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) response, survivor accompaniment to court and law enforcement interviews and legal advocacy, and individual and group therapy. The Therapist/Intern must effectively communicate survivor needs and/or any requests by community partners to the Crisis Intervention team.

The Therapist/intern must respond effectively, timely, calmly, and with empathy and compassion to survivors of sexual violence and significant others in therapy sessions and ongoing case management in close partnership with the Crisis Intervention Team.

Major Functions

Serve as primary provider of individual and/or group psychotherapy for survivors of sexual violence, their significant others and/or children who have experienced trauma

Participate in supervision within the guidelines of the California Board of Behavioral Sciences

Complete required continuing education units (for licensed therapists), within the guidelines of California Board of Behavioral Sciences

Complete required clinical documentation, including comprehensive client assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes, within required agency timeframe and guidelines

Work collaboratively with the Crisis Intervention team to provide support to clients outside therapy sessions

Respond to requests for records verification of counseling and Subpoenas for the MCRCC office

Enter case information into client management software

Collect and maintain statistics regarding individual cases

Assist in conducting client satisfaction surveys

Maintain confidentiality of all client and sensitive information

Perform agency and program administrative and operational tasks, as needed

Uphold and adhere to the policies and bylaws of the organization

Remain current with news, new legislation, reporting laws, child abuse and sexual violence research in general

Report regularly to the Clinical Director and otherwise to insure that s/he is fully informed of all program activities

Carry out other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Deputy Director/Clinical Director

Major Qualifications

Registered/licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences

Bilingual, bi-cultural and bi-literate skills are strongly preferred

Must have completed or be willing to complete 40+ hour training to earn the California State Sexual Assault Counselor certification (Training will be provided)

Experience in providing psychotherapy to children

Knowledgeable about the dynamics of child abuse

Understanding of mandated reporting requirements

Understanding of child abuse and sexual assault, and commitment to ending sexual violence

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Must have the ability to establish rapport with diverse audiences, and be sensitive to diverse groups

Familiarity with Monterey County and community resources

Strong planning and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks

Strong leadership skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, climb stairs, and sit for up to 4+ hours

Ability to use relevant technology

Willing to work flexible hours including some evenings, early mornings and weekends as needed

Must have reliable transportation, a valid drivers license, and carry vehicle insurance

Criminal background clearance through the Department of Justice
