We offer services ranging from full life cycle HPC systems engineering to remote managed services to HPC program analysis.We are seeking to fill a role for a LAMP DevOps Developer on our NASA NACS HPC program supporting and further developing a rapidly growing Data Portal serving 400TB+ of multi-gigabyte scientific datasets, with over 1 million downloads per month, for the NASA Advanced Supercomputing (NAS) Division.You will be a member of the small Data Portal Group responsible for data-to-day operations of the popular data dissemination service while participating with senior developers on developing future enhancements and site reliability functions. An individual at this skill level should be able to hit the ground running and have demonstrated experience supporting the operations and development for public-facing web portals focused on data distribution to maintain service levels for existing customers and consumers of the NAS Data Portal. The individual will work with HPC administrators to debug and optimize workflow performance from the complex HPC storage systems to the Data Portal Software stack that enable scientific collaborators all over the world to contribute to NASA’s mission.

U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance are mandatory requirements for this position.

This position will be located onsite in Mountain View, CA once the restrictions related to the pandemic are lifted.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain site availability and functionality in cooperation with the other Data Portal Team members
  • Contribute to rolling development projects focused on both new features and site reliability
  • Maintain and develop monitoring tools to measure performance of the Data Portal
  • Work with HPC and Network Engineers to debug workflow issues stemming from HPC storage systems and network issues to Data Portal Service
  • Resolve user report issues and manage support ticket requests in the helpdesk system
  • De-escalate, enable, and train a lower 24x7 service tier to perform unassisted service restoration and debugging
  • Moderate after-hours support through a rotating schedule to maintain sensible service availability
  • Maintain external and internal documentation for the Data Portal

Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a computer-related field
  • Demonstrated development experience in a comparable infrastructure
  • Linux expert with experience in load-balanced web servers
  • MySQL administration and tuning
  • Excellent scripting skills (e.g., Python, Perl, Ruby, PHP, Bash)
  • Strong ability to interact with customers to understand needs, elicit requirements, and get feedback on prototype solutions
  • Hands-on experience with administration of Linux systems.
  • Experience with system configuration management tools (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ansible)
  • Experience with revision control software (e.g., CVS, SVN, Git)
  • Proficiency with technical writing and documentation of supported systems
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience working with HPC systems
  • Experience in developing for high-availability environments
  • Network and system security experience a significant plus
  • Experience working in formal project environments.
