Our core values are compassion, integrity, excellence, teamwork and wholeness.The Nursing Unit Secretary is responsible for supporting registration processes in the nursing unit including facilitation of admission, discharge, and patient transfer functions. Helps to maintain current medical records and order entry on all unit patients. Assists as needed in the answering of patient calls and general unit phone calls, ensuring the nursing staff is notified appropriately. Assists in receiving, greeting, and directing patients and visitors to the unit, ensuring that professionalism, courtesy, and cultural sensitivity are maintained. Acts as a member of the health care team to ensure appropriate resources to all internal and external customers; maintains a secure and trusting environment, ensures the customer’s right to privacy and dignity. Performs other duties as needed.High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree in related field preferred. Minimum of one year experience in a secretarial role with a medical background required. Minimum one year experience as a Nursing Unit Secretary or related field preferred.Interpersonal skills to effectively work position assignments. Answers telephones. Data entry, proo, and retrieval via Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate and troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place and patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required within thirty days of hire.Additional Information
