POSITION SUMMARY:

Let Metis put your skills to work for NASA in Palmdale, CA to help in the short- and long-term planning and execution of the airborne science mission for NASA’s DC-8 and ER-2 aircraft. Support the NASA program manager and aircraft team to budget, coordinate, participate, and execute airborne science research in the US and internationally. The mission support Satellite calibration and validation, new sensor development, process studies, and development of the Next-Generation of scientists and engineers.
  • Develop plans, including cost estimates and logistics coordination for aircraft deployments in support of NASA science missions.
  • Track costs to determine efficiencies in budget and resource planning.
  • Develop long-range project plans.
  • Manage and report on project risks.
  • Coordinate science personnel flight status to include flight clearances, medical, visit requests, and egress training.
  • Perform deployment planning to include: (Fixed Based Operator) FBO Coordination, Diplomatic (DIP) Clearances, foreign visas for project teams, room blocks, and personnel planning.
  • Have working knowledge of the AFRC-specific project organizations, policies, processes, facilities, data systems, airworthiness requirements, and other support contracts (i.e., has a complete working knowledge of how the Center supports a diverse set of projects).
  • Understands/manages project integration across the project life cycle and program functions.
  • Mentors project support staff in specific technical areas and/or the processes and project management principles.
  • Applies Project Management, Engineering principles, and Systems Engineering processes.
  • Manage and decompose requirements in specific technical areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

BA/BS degree in a technical or engineering field from an accredited university with at least 7 years of experience.

Required Skills and knowledge

:
  • Strong communications and ability to work in a team environment a must.
  • High-level critical thinking skills and takes ownership of every aspect of the project life cycle with the ability to forecast.
  • Understands/manages project integration across the project life cycle and program functions.
  • Strong technical and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic and multi-task work environment by prioritizing work and coordinating task/project schedules.
  • Ability to prepare and present briefings to a panel of decision-making authorities.
  • Experience in one or more of the following technology areas are highly desirable: aircraft operations, logistics, planning foreign deployments, secondary aircrew as a mission director or flight test engineer.
  • Desired: Have working knowledge of the AFRC-specific project organizations, policies, processes, facilities, data systems, airworthiness requirements, and other support contracts (i.e., has a complete working knowledge of how the Center supports a diverse set of projects).
