This role effectively manages internal and external development resources. The Director – Application Development supports sales and product teams through sales process and definition of product roadmap. This position collaborates with IT and other support functions for Information Security and selection of third party development providers.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesBuild and direct a cohesive team of internal and external personnel to effectively develop across a broad range of technologies – mostly cloud support (AWS)
Support ongoing maintenance and development of customized customer facing products that support live events
Engage outside providers – both offshore and onshore – to identify the optimal development approach based on cost, quality, speed, and other factors
Collaborate with product owners on technical feasibility and implementation approaches to maximize value
Work with sales and customers to respond to RFP’s, demos, and evaluate technical fit
Coordinate development costs with multiple business units to ensure profitability
Collaborate with IT group to adopt standards, in particular information security
Evaluate potential technical partners supporting future product growth
Prioritize and manage development activities, ensuring that projects are completed on time / budget, and with superior quality
Provide technical expertise, support, and guidance in planning and implementing
Develop cutting edge solutions that support the company’s strategies and provide a high degree of end user satisfaction
Develop and effectively manage budgets and ensure budget adherence
Mentor staff to improve skills, provide career growth, and ensure succession plans
Provide accurate cost and schedule projections of needed software, hardware and personnel resources, thereby increasing efficiency and decreasing costs for the company
Identify tools, processes and techniques to improve efficiency and quality of the group
Effectively negotiate with outside vendors and consultants as required
Continuously evaluate staff positions, responsibilities and individuals for appropriate performance, skills, potential for improvement and growth. Manage merit increases and annual bonuses for direct reports
Develop detailed plan for staffing changes, training, enrichment and personal development
Education & ExperienceBachelor's Degree in computer systems or related field
(10) ten years or more of application development management experience
Expert knowledge in cloud based (AWS) technologies, architecture, and standards
Experience with building and managing department budgets and forecasts
