At Maxar, we are excited to have a multitude of programs, including joining NASA in exploring the cosmos and putting people back on the moon! Maxar is currently seeking a Thermal Engineer to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. In this key role, you will help guide new programs which will enable timely design and manufacture of satellite systems. In addition, you will perform thermal analysis/simulations, design, development, analysis and evaluation of mechanical components, systems and packages for space or ground systems. Responsibilities:- Determine most efficient, yet sufficiently thorough method of solving problems.
- Generate requirements for all parts and subsystems to maintain temperatures within qualification ranges (including system sizing, part design, and control elements).
- Participate in research, design, development, analysis and evaluation of components, systems and packages for spacecraft flight operation and testing
- Utilize knowledge of aerospace materials, thermal testing, and basic thermal analysis concepts such as radiation and conduction.
- Develop finite difference/element models of components and assemblies using Thermal Desktop software.
- Process the models to obtain steady state and transient responses to launch, in-orbit operation, test, and ground handling environments, including definition of test requirements, design of test configuration, administration of tests, and writing test reports.
- Works on Thermal and other related problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors such as cost, quality, reliability, manufacturability, impact to schedule, and process improvement.
- Ensure all inputs are understood and clearly communicate requirements and analysis outputs.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering or related discipline. Four years of experience may be substituted for the degree requirement
- 2 years of relevant experience. A Master's degree may count as 2 years of experience.
- Familiarity with spacecraft thermal design
- Thermal Desktop
- Pro-E/Creo
- Effective verbal and written communication, organization, project/time management, attention to detail and leadership skills
- Experience with a commercial CFD / CHT or FEA code
