Maxar is currently seeking a Program Project Engineer to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. This work can also be done remotely within the U.S. with occasional travel to our manufacturing facilities. This role provides technical program management for the Power and Propulsion Element (PPE) space vehicle, part of NASA's project Artemis. This is a new role we are implementing due to the complexity and criticality of the PPE program. The ideal candidate has expertise in creating and institutionalizing new processes and interest in future growth.

The Program Project Engineer, reporting to the VP of Spacecraft Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT), is responsible for ensuring comprehensive project planning, schedule development, and cost management within the PPE program.
  • Generation and approval of project plans for pursuit, engineering, design, and manufacturing phases for the duration of the program
  • Active management of project execution from pursuit through handover
  • Process adherence during program execution
  • Budget and schedule adherence, monitoring, and status generation
  • Implementation of Earned Value management
  • Program focal point for Supply Chain and Material need dates and deliveries
  • Coordination and management of program contract deliverables
  • Participation in Program Risk identification and management
  • Facilitating Program Change management process

Minimum Requirements:
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline. A Master's degree may count for an additional two years of experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering or technical program management experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment including 3 years of hardware product development experience
  • Cost Account and Earned Value Management (EVM) experience
  • Direct experience developing Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
  • Experience in managing against Program Work Statement / Statement of Work
  • Experience in management of contract deliverables

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate well with Maxar leadership
  • Experience managing projects in both waterfall and Agile environments
  • Experience in materials purchasing
  • Strong listening ability: Be able to hear what is said, understand what is meant, communicate with stakeholders, and productively engage all involved members
  • Proven skills in issue resolution and decision making across functional groups in a highly complex environment
  • Ability to influence effectively
  • Comfortable in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Strives for excellence with a high level of integrity.
  • Passion for satellite and space system product development, integration, manufacturing, and test
  • Desire to build processes and operational structures to grow the Maxar Space Segment
  • Strong drive for executing and obtaining strategic goals
  • Ability to attack problems: block and tackle near term issues, anticipate and mitigate potential future issues

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Direct experience in developing and managing resource loaded, complex cross functional schedules in Microsoft Project
  • Experience with SAP cost reporting tools
  • Experience in all phases of a satellite development program
  • PMP certification
  • Proposal development and IRAD experience
  • Previous experience with spacecraft hardware and software development
  • Experience developing governance processes to ensure excellent engineering project execution
  • Cleared at the TS/SCI level
