Company.RVP Commercial and
Specialty Business Division (CSBD) The RVP Underwriting
will have primary responsibilities for overseeing all underwriting activities nationwide
with a focus on medical individual and small group risk rated products. Additionally,
the position includes regular management reporting, analysis, planning and
forecasting. The ideal candidate will be expected to design and drive the
standardization of processes across the different states. The RVP is responsible for leading,
developing and overseeing the implementation of policies and strategies that
maintain a balance of profitability, growth and risk management/leverage for
the state.Key Responsibilities:
Monitors and influences
profitability of renewal and prospect employer groups as assigned.
Establishes underwriting
policies and rating procedures, communicates any changes to staff, and
ensures compliance.
Oversees issuance of standard
financial arrangement contracts and creates wording for non-standard or
new financial arrangements.
Utilizes in-depth knowledge of
formulas, trending, reserving procedures, and claims to implement and
consult with sales staff on the appropriateness of specific financial
arrangements, ASO arrangements, and reinsurance provisions.
Participates in strategic
planning and management decisions.
Develops and manages department
budget.
Hires, trains, coaches,
counsels and evaluates performance of direct reports.
Qualifications
Professional Experience/Education
BA/BS in a related field; or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
10 years of experience in
underwriting with a demonstrated record of hiring and developing direct
reports; or any combination of education and experience which would
provide an equivalent background.
Excellent leadership and
interpersonal skills, including relationship management, persuasion and
negotiation skills required.
Strategic thinker with broad
& deep understanding of the health care industry required.
Excellent financial and
analytical skills required
Exceptional written & oral
communication skills, including presentation skills required.
Strong software skills and
demonstrated planning, project management, analytical and research skills
strongly preferred.
