Maxar is currently seeking a Communication Systems Engineer to join our Communication Systems Engineering team in Palo Alto, CA. We are looking for a self-motivated engineer who can make an impact in a team of engineers who generate design requirements, spec flow, Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), test requirements and validation for the communications payload of the satellite.

Essential Functions:
  • Acts as responsible engineer for a subsystem or a major portion of a system, specializing in the RF Payload integration, test and verification of the payload
  • Develops system requirements and system specifications
  • Performs requirements analysis and system trade studies
  • Supports system architecture design and system level testing
  • Leads RF system level test activities
  • Develops methods, standards, plans and procedures for systems engineering tools and systems tests
  • Analyzes operational issues and problems and implements corrective actions
  • Monitors and manages technical, cost, and schedule performance on internal efforts of limited complexity
  • Contributes to portions of technical proposals
  • Introduces innovative or creative techniques and solutions in specialty area
  • Leads the testing and troubleshooting of the RF payload during spacecraft integration and test

Scope & Supervision:
  • Receives broad assignments with limited supervision
  • Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in depth evaluation of various factors including cost, quality, reliability, manufacturability, impact to schedule, and process improvement
  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Directs teams identifying design problems and implementing corrective action
  • May represent the company with customers or venders when finding solutions to technical problems
  • Supports or conducts design reviews as appropriate

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics, or STEM related field. 4 additional years of work experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • 4+ years of related RF work experience. (A Master's degree may count as 2 years of experience.)
  • Understanding of mathematics and physics as they relate to electrical systems and components

Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.S. degree in a specialized field of engineering or science
  • Understanding of and proficiency in the use of computer aided design tools such as Microwave Office, Advanced Design System (ADS), or Ansys HFSS
  • Some experience with C, VBA, Matlab, or Python
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office
