At Maxar, we are building upon our 60 year legacy of innovation, from designing the high gain antennas for NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 which have raced beyond the heliosphere through interstellar space to establishing ourselves as the industry leader in geostationary satellites delivering services like broadband internet access, satellite radio, and direct-to-home satellite television. We are now designing the next generation of earth imaging satellites, building the Psyche spacecraft to study asteroids, and partnering with NASA on our PPE program in their effort to return humans to the moon!The preferred location is Maxar's Palo Alto office, but the role can be based remotely in the U.S in the areas around Seattle, Los Angeles, Denver, or Washington, D.C. To continue as the leader in the space industry, the Systems Engineering Directorate is looking for a Satellite Systems Operations Engineer to support our missions operations as a subsystem lead. The ideal candidate will apply sub-systems knowledge in C&DH (Command & Data Handling), ACS (Attitude Control Systems), Power, Thermal, or RF/Comm during both Launch and Early Operations (LEOP) and In-Orbit Testing (IOT). You may play a key role in new hardware or software on-orbit implementation while developing new mission designs. Specifically, you will be responsible for the following:- Provide peer review and technical support for on-orbit operation anomalies or customer operation questions for Maxar's fleet of 90 GEO spacecraft.
- Provide customer operations training and on-site support.
- Develop and validate spacecraft on-orbit procedures using Maxar's Procedure Authoring Tool (PAT), Dynamic Satellite Simulator (DSS), and Integrated Telemetry and Control System (iTACS) ground system.
- Develop and validate on-orbit Automated Procedures (Aps) in various scripting languages (Python, ARES, etc.) using Maxar's Automated Procedure Generator (APGen), DSS, and various customer ground systems
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, Math, Physics or related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience with 2 years' experience in aerospace operations
- Experience in sub-system (C&DH, ACS, Power, Thermal, or RF/Comm) design or technical operations a plus
- Previous experience working on United States Government programs
- Experience coding in Python, ARES, Perl, or other scripting languages
- Experience developing technical processes and tailoring processes for unique programs
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, work autonomously, and meet deadlines with exceptional quality
- Ability to handle uncertainty and manage ambiguity
- Familiarity with risk management
