Please review the job details below.

At Maxar, we are building upon our 60 year legacy of innovation, from designing the high gain antennas for NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 which have raced beyond the heliosphere through interstellar space to establishing ourselves as the industry leader in geostationary satellites delivering services like broadband internet access, satellite radio, and direct-to-home satellite television. We are now designing the next generation of earth imaging satellites, building the Psyche spacecraft to study asteroids, and partnering with NASA on our PPE program in their effort to return humans to the moon!

To continue as the leader in the space industry, the Systems Engineering Directorate is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer who can apply their knowledge and experience in Avionics or Power subsystems to participate in systems engineering activities in support of our current programs. The ideal candidate will apply the systems engineering discipline to complex spacecraft designs including ConOps development, system architecture, requirements management, requirements decomposition & flowdown. As the program progresses, your focus would transition to integration, verification, and validation activities. Your familiarity with Avionics and Power subsystem technologies, including Command & Data Handling architecture and power budgets, will enable the spacecraft's design to meet its mission requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Create a Concept of Operations (ConOps) development and validation
  • Propose and evaluate new and existing system architectures
  • Develop, decompose, and flow requirements at the mission, system, subsystem, and component levels
  • Manage requirements development and maintenance
  • Develop and maintain system budgets (mass, power, data)
  • Develop full system validation and verification plan
  • Lead customer discussions regarding system design decisions
  • Define and conceptualize interface & operability requirements
  • Generate and maintain compliance matrix for system and subsystems
  • Facilitate collaboration across subsystems engineers to ensure compliance
  • Role model interpersonal behaviors that promote psychological safety and belonging within the organization
  • Provide senior technical oversight to ensure the expected quality, rigor, and discipline of systems engineering is maintained
  • Ensure technical teams properly identify technical risks and opportunities, implement appropriate risk mitigation and action plans, and drive mitigation of risks to meet programmatic timelines
  • Support proposal development and help explore new business opportunities that capitalize on Maxar's strengths
  • Oversee spacecraft testing and review test results

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, computer science, math, physics or other STEM field. Four years of additional experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in systems engineering or complex electrical systems design
  • General understanding of spacecraft design and product life cycle

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in electrical systems technologies, specifically Command & Data Handling (C&DH) architecture, power budgets, electrical interface definition, mission processor selection, or data bus & wire harness design.
  • Previous experience working on United States Government programs
  • Experience with any requirements management systems (i.e. DOORS, JAMA, etc.)
  • Experience coding in C, C, Python, or Matlab & creating software tools for verification activities a plus
  • Familiarity with software architecture, verification, and validation
  • Familiarity with risk management
  • Experience developing technical processes, and tailoring processes for unique programs
