Maxar is currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. This role may also be performed remotely in CA, WA or CO. At Maxar, we are building upon our 60-year legacy of innovation, from designing the high-gain antennas for NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 which have raced beyond the heliosphere through interstellar space to establishing ourselves as the industry leader in geostationary satellites delivering services like broadband internet access, satellite radio, and direct-to-home satellite television. We are now designing the next generation of earth imaging satellites, building the Psyche spacecraft to study asteroids, and partnering with NASA on the Power Propulstion Element (PPE) program in an effort to return humans to the moon!In this role, you will participate in front-end systems engineering activities to support our current programs. You will apply systems engineering rigor and discipline to complex programs or proposals, converting customer needs into an appropriate design through ConOps development, requirements development, requirements decomposition and flow down. As the program progresses, your focus will transition to verification, integration, and validation activities. You are an ideal candidate if you have a broad engineering background along with a strong foundation in a particular technical area to transition into our team. Responsibilities:- Concept of operations (ConOps) development and validation
- Develop, decompose, and flow requirements at the mission, system, sub-system, and component levels
- Manage requirements development and maintenance
- Develop and maintain system budgets (mass, power, data)
- Develop full system validation and verification plan
- Customer discussions regarding system design and design decisions
- Ability to define and conceptualize interface & interoperability requirements
- Generate and maintain compliance matrix for system and sub-systems
- Connect and work with sub-systems engineers to ensure compliance
- Support proposals and help explore new business opportunities that capitalize on Maxar's strengths
- Oversee spacecraft testing and review test results
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or related field. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree
- Minimum of 8 years of systems engineering experience. A master's degree will count toward two years of experience.
- General understanding of spacecraft design and product life cycle
- Experience with any requirements management systems (i.e. DOORS, JAMA, etc.)
- Familiarity with software architecture, verification, and validation
- General understanding of product life cycle or equivalent experience from a different mission-critical field (e.g. aviation, automotive)
- Experience developing technical processes, and tailoring processes for unique programs
- Experience with Microsoft Visio
- Experience coding in C, C, Python, or Matlab & creating software tools for verification activities a plusFamiliarity with risk management
- INCOSE certification
- Intermediate working knowledge of MS-Office
