Maxar is looking for a RF Software Engineer to join our team in Palo Alto, CA or San Jose, CA. In this role, you will be supporting RF and Optical Payload testing of spacecraft and major sub-assemblies during Assembly, Integration, & Test of satellites performing commercial and civil missions involving communication, earth observation, and lunar gateway activities.

What you'll do day-to-day (with your colleagues) :
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, payload test engineers, and external customers to understand, capture, and derive software requirements
  • Maintain engineering controlled software release and deployment cycle
  • Develop new and updated test algorithms in coordination with payload systems engineering
  • Provide software related feedback and insight to teams engineering test racks and other hardware
  • Support deployment and end-users, including creating design documents, user's manuals, configuration management systems, and real-time troubleshooting
  • As needed, provide 24/7 software support to production staff
  • Support launch activities

Minimum requirements for this position:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering/science, electrical engineering, physics, math, or related field. 4 additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • 5 years of related work experience. A Master's degree may count for 2 years of experience.
  • Either RF test experience or ATE software experience
  • Willingness to learn: RF theory, software development for engineering environments, systems for engineering controlled manufacturing and development (CMMI, ISO9000, etc), numerous related technical subjects
  • Familiarity with basic electronic instruments E.G. DMM/Voltmeter, Oscilloscope, Power supplies
  • Familiarity with networking concepts such as: IP/Mac addresses, Subnet masks, TCP/IP protocol etc.
  • Willingness to learn to operate Linux based systems
  • Experience with one of the following: Python, C/C, LabVIEW, or equivalent
  • Ability to work with teams of engineers to represent test software during investigations of engineering issues and implementation of controlled engineering solutions
  • Ability to independently diagnose complex electronic issues and devise possible solutions

These skills would be amazing
  • RF Instrument Experience E.G. Network analyzers, Power sensors, Signal Generators, & Spectrum Analyzers
  • Specifically Rohde & Schwarz Vector Signal Generators
  • Experience operating in and around Thermal Vacuum chambers (TVAC)
  • Experience operating in and around antenna test chambers (Anechoic chambers)
  • Experience working in cleanroom environments as stringent as ISO 5/10K
  • Experience performing failure/root-cause analysis
  • Experience in satellite or other spacecraft manufacturing
  • Experience performing DevOps activities including release management, network configuration, NATs/Routers
  • Experience working in engineering controlled environments
  • Hands-on experience with flight hardware
  • Experience devising and executing engineering tests then analyzing and presenting the resulting data
