As the Software Engineering Manager, you will lead and guide the team as they develop custom software to control our robotic systems, ground and operations software to communicate with and command those systems, and the custom tools we use to develop, build, and analyze those systems.

The ideal candidate has a passion for robotics and for space exploration, has experience leading a technical team, works efficiently on multiple projects, is eager to learn, and can work collaboratively to lead a remotely distributed team. As the lead of a quickly growing software team, the candidate should be comfortable taking the lead on projects, delegating tasks, as well as identifying and pursuing new practices that improve the efficiency of the team and quality of our products.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and grow a team of highly motivated software and robotics engineers
  • Collaborate across functional divisions to guide a software development roadmap to ensure our capabilities continue to grow and support the evolving needs of the space robotics industry
  • Work with technical leads to architect and supervise development of software for a wide variety of robotic systems (e.g., custom arms, rovers, & morphologies) including simulation, visualization, test and analysis, flight software, and command and control.
  • Ensure the production of flight quality code for space operation of our robotic systems.
  • Facilitate an environment of continuous improvement and personal growth

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other related field with a focus on Controls, Computer Vision, Flight Software/Systems, Manipulation, or Path Planning
  • 5+ years professional development experience with C and C (or other object-oriented language)
  • Experience as a group or technical leader
  • Experience with ROS, RO2 or similar robotics framework
  • Experience with Git and modern development practices such as Continuous Integration
  • Experience in integrated hardware and software development across all aspects of the product life cycle.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Robotics or extensive understanding of robotic systems and control
  • 7+ years of work experience
  • Extensive experience developing flight quality software
  • Space mission operations experience
  • Experience with motion planning and/or robotics-based simulation software
  • Experience with Unity and VR/AR
  • Experience with Python and Matlab
  • Experience with Software Quality standards such as NPR 7150.2
