Nurse Practitioners perform a vital role in Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation’s commitment to deliver effective and efficient quality health care services to its patients. Together, the collaborative physician and Nurse Practitioner (NP) will share responsibility for the health and welfare of our members. This dynamic position will provide support for the Cardiology office for Cedars-Sinai Medical Group. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) position offers an opportunity to work closely with top academic and research physicians affiliated with the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The Nurse Practitioner will also work collaboratively with physicians in the multidisciplinary team working in CardiologyESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:A. ASSESSMENT OF HEALTH STATUS

Nurse Practitioner will independently obtain a relevant health and medical history.

Performs a physical examination based on age and history and dictates a progress note if needed with the appropriate physicians

Nurse Practitioner will formulate a plan of care for patients.

Nurse Practitioner will make rounds on inpatients.

Performs and/or orders preventive and diagnostic procedures based on the patient’s age and history.

Identifies health and medical risk factors.

Nurse Practitioner will help coordinate timely consultations and transfers of patients.

The Nurse Practitoner will help the physicians provide screening, consultation and answers to incoming questions from referring physicians.

Nurse practitioner will have prescriptive authority to order and perform diagnostic tests including stress echocardiogram and treadmills.

Nurse Practitioner will screen patients for enrollment of clinical trials and research projects and participate actively in the conduct of these clinical trials

On-Call responsibilities to include nights and weekends.

Competency at using an electronic medical record.

B. DIAGNOSISThe NP makes a diagnosis by:Utilizing critical thinking in the diagnostic processSynthesizing and analyzing the collected dataFormulating a differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination, and diagnostic test resultsC. DEVELOPMENT OF A TREATMENT PLANThe NP, together with the patient and family, will establish a mutually acceptable plan of care that maximizes health potential. Formulation of the treatment plan includes:Ordering additional diagnostic testsSelecting appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventionsDeveloping a patient education planAppropriate consultation/referral.Coordinate prescriptions with specialty pharmacies and help obtain authorizations for medicationsD. IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PLANActions by the NP are:IndividualizedConsistent with the appropriate plan of careBased on scientific principles, theoretical knowledge and clinical expertiseConsistent with teaching and learning opportunities.Actions includeAccurately conducting and interpreting diagnostic testsPrescribing pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapiesProviding relevant patient educationMaking appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community agenciesE. FOLLOW-UP AND EVALUATION OF CLIENT STATUSThe NP maintains a process for systematic follow-up by:Determining the effectiveness of the treatment plan with documentation of patient care outcomes.Reassessing and modifying the plan as necessary to achieve health and medical goals.Provide education to the patients about their conditions and the medications available for their useProvide teaching about any drug prescribed and drug-drug interactionsProvide educational pamphlets to patients and prescriptions according to guidlines of adjuvant therapies such as O2, anticoagulation, diuretics, immunizations, etc.Assist with compliance and administration of different therapies including inhaled, subcutaneous and IV prostranoids. The Nurse Practitioner will follow-up on these therapies with frequent phone calls to patients.Nurse Practitioner will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills that will facilitate the delivery of exceptional health care service to our patientsF. The promotion of a safe environmentThe NP participates as a team member in the provision of health and medical care, interacting with professional colleagues to provide comprehensive care. Maintains accurate, legible and confidential records. Participates in continuous quality review, including systematic review of medical and other records and treatment plans on a periodic basis, maintains current knowledge by attending continuing education programs.COLLABORATING PHYSICIAN(S)It is the responsibility of the NP to keep the collaborating physician(s) informed of his/her practice and to seek assistance, refer the patient to the physician or obtain further instructions from the physician whenever doubt exists or prudent medical practice dictates (See Collaborating Physician(s) Policy and Procedure).STANDARDIZED PROCEDURE PROTOCOLSThe NP and the collaborating physician(s) will utilize The Standardized Procedure Protocols developed and designed to describe the steps of medical care for given patient situations/diagnosis/treatment: they are to be followed in the care and treatment of patients (See Standardized Procedure Protocols Policy and Procedure). The NP is responsible for participating in the establishment/review/revision of the Standardized Procedure Protocols.Educational Requirements:Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the Board of Registered Nursing.License/Certification/Registration Requirements:Current unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license issued by the State of California.Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certificate. Furnishing number issued by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).Experience:Three (3) years clinical nursing experience including acute care and Cardiology preferred.Cedars-Sinai is an EEO employer.
