Are you interested in working for a company that has over 60 years’ experience in advanced technology and high reliability products for various industries such as aerospace, defense, electronics, medical? This is a direct hire position onsite in San Diego, CA.The Software Automation Engineer:
  • develops and maintains test software and software for interfacing with electrical/mechanical hardware and equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Works under general supervision to provide creative, practical and consistent technical solutions.
  • Has a thorough understanding of technical standards, principles, theories and techniques with the ability to apply these to a broad set of applications.
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action; a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop software for Automated Test Equipment (ATE) on new products, both at the system and PCBA board test levels
  • Maintain integrity of data storage and product configuration tools and methods
  • Jointly develop and transition test software with cross functional teams during new product introduction (NPI) to optimize test coverage while minimizing costs
  • Upgrade manufacturing equipment and processes with new technology
  • Research and analyze manufacturing data management tools and present recommendations to management
  • Work closely with the development team to debug new test methods
  • Build and release internal candidate products
  • Configuration and build/installation management
  • Review existing processes, evaluate for efficacy and efficiency and make improvements as needed
  • Standardize processes throughout manufacturing
  • Assist manufacturing associates and technicians with production issues and processes
  • Design, implement, and train associates and technicians in new methods, products, tooling, work instructions, etc.
  • Implement "Lean" techniques and processes into operations and throughout the organization
  • Evaluate effects of product design changes and challenges engineering designs when required
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar discipline
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Python scripting
  • Experience writing software for test automation
  • Experience with developing software for Automated Test Equipment
  • Experience with software source control, defect tracking tools
  • Experience with C and C# is preferred
  • Experience with LabVIEW is preferred
  • Industry knowledge is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in improving manufacturing processes is preferred
  • Experience or knowledge of Electrical Engineering is a plus
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills
  • May require occasional work in a marine environment on a small boat or larger vessel
  • Able to work safely around test tanks and electrical current
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for issues that arise when implementing new test methods.
