Job Summary:

The Construction Inspector supports an onsite supervisor or team leader (might be a RockSol supervisor, or a FHWA or state DOT project engineer) in the oversight of state or federal transportation related construction projects. The inspector monitors or performs sampling and testing, observations of construction activities, and other activities assuring contract compliance and adherence to applicable environmental and regulatory requirements. Must maintain positive working relationships with project engineers, contractors, subconsultants and state DOT or FHWA staff. Must adhere to quality assurance and safety standards. Provides inspection of construction activities to ensure the quality of construction and compliance with project plans, contracts, specifications, and special provisions.

These will be seasonal positions in various locations throughout the western United States. This position will be needed from approximately June - December 2019 subject to the needs of our client.

Responsibilities:

Serve as a construction inspector for transportation projects by monitoring and overseeing the construction of roads, highways and bridges and related facilities, reviewing work to ensure that quality materials and workmanship are incorporated into those projects.

Review, inspect, test and/or measure the work of the contractors and consultants to ensure that work is performed in accordance with the contract, including technical requirements as well as environmental and permitting requirements.

Maintain accurate daily record of construction site activity and produce required reports on quality, progress, safety and environmental compliance.

Measure, calculate and/or estimate quantities for materials and work performed under the contract. Document all measurements, calculations and estimates.

Adhere to the requirements of the internal Quality Management System (QMS).

Maintain assigned equipment and vehicles according to company procedures.

Other construction inspection assignments as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of one (1) year experience in construction inspection related to transportation construction projects. More experience is preferred. Pay will be commensurate with experience.

A demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and maintain attention to accuracy and detail.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Obtain and maintain required certifications for position.

Must meet internal requirements for operation of company vehicles throughout duration of employment and must maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record.

Must be willing and able to travel to job sites, sometimes for extended periods. Job sites may be located throughout Colorado or in western U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous inspection experience on DOT or FHWA road construction preferred but not required.

Construction materials testing experience.

Inspection, material testing, traffic control and OSHA certifications preferred but not required.

Work Environment:

Work locations include road construction sites and field offices with regular exposure to all types of weather conditions during field work. Ability to routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Loud noise levels at times (hearing protection provided). Overnight travel may be required with this position.
