Job Summary:

The Construction Manager serves as the owners representative in planning, scheduling coordinating field construction inspection and contract administration activities on assigned road and bridge construction projects. Must maintain positive working relationships with project engineers, contractors, subconsultants, owner agencies, the public, other RockSol managers and staff, and CDOT or FHWA staff, as applicable. Must adhere to quality assurance and safety standards and ensure that schedules and budgets are met. Provides inspection of construction activities in order to ensure the quality of construction and compliance with project plans, contracts, specifications, and special provisions.

These will be seasonal positions in various locations throughout the western United States. This position will be needed from approximately June - December 2019 subject to the needs of our client.

Responsibilities:

Serve as a construction project manager (owners representative) for transportation projects by monitoring and overseeing the construction of roads, highways and bridges, and reviewing work to assure contract compliance and quality of materials and workmanship, and safe worksite operations.

Review, inspect, test and measure the work, or supervise others performing those duties, to ensure that work is performed in accordance with contract requirements.

Maintain accurate daily records of construction site activities and produce required reports on the status of progress, safety, quality, schedule and budgets.

Analyze and/or perform scheduling utilizing standard scheduling software such as MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent.

Initiate communication of project-related details to the client whenever necessary.

Calculate and/or estimate quantities for project work that is performed and recommend authorization of payments for completed and accepted work. Document these estimates or calculations.

Assist in documenting construction changes by developing contract change orders and cost estimates.

Adhere to the requirements of the RockSol internal Quality Management System (QMS).

Maintain assigned equipment and vehicles according to company policies and procedures.

Other construction project management assignments as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred.

5+ years experience in construction management of transportation projects required.

Working knowledge of general design principles, safety and labor laws and requirements, quality control and quality assurance principles

Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and maintain attention to accuracy and detail.

Ability to manage a staff of professionals and direct their efficient utilization on projects.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications for position.

Must meet internal requirements for operation of company vehicles throughout duration of employment and must maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record.

Willing and able to travel to job sites, sometimes for extended periods. Job sites may be located throughout Colorado or in western U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous project management and/or inspection experience on DOT or FHWA road construction preferred but not required.

Current Professional Engineer license desirable but not required.

Construction materials testing experience preferred.

Work Environment:

Work locations include road construction sites and field offices with regular exposure to all types of weather conditions during field work. Ability to routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Loud noise levels at times (hearing protection provided). Overnight travel may be required with this position.
