Job Description SummaryJob DescriptionThe Transportation Manager will report to the Associate Director North America Transportation with a dotted line to the Local Site Management. The Transportation Lead will manage the DC Transportation Planners who will execute the tendering of loads to the BD Carrier base that have been created by the corporate transportation team. This includes but is not limited to resolving errors in tenders and carrier routing as well as researching and resolving customer complaints. The Transportation Manager is expected to partner with customer service, corporate transportation, distribution, and carriers to improve transportation performance and on-time delivery. This lead will also drive CI initiatives and ensure its proper execution on the warehouse floor. Leading the site’s transportation team of inbound and outbound planners to ensure that daily load tendering and planning of intra company / customer shipments are completed in a timely manner.

Manage Yard and Welcome Center staff activities to ensure all daily goals are met

Monitor and maintain adequate trailer pool levels to minimize detention and demurrage cost.

Drive and execute continuous improvements initiatives at the site.

Responsible for building relationships with both external (carriers) and internal customers.

Daily pro-active communication with essential internal and external parties.

Aligns distribution operations load-readiness and carrier base service performance expectations to meet customer’s needs.

Manage and maintain spreadsheets/reports as required.

Participate in cross-training across the business channels and/or business.

Provide support and feedback to supervisors and peers.

Support the claims process as required.

Manage workload by multitasking and developing skills and tools to help organize tasks by prioritization.

Assist in managing carrier lanes by proactively communicating carrier performance with manager and business lead.

Thoroughly navigate through WMS and SAP with minimal to no supervision.

Daily pro-active communication with internal & external customers.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree and/or 5 plus years of equivalent experience

Willingness to be flexible with work schedule times.

Ability to work occasional weekend days.

Good verbal & written communications skills.

Analytical decision-making skills with the ability to think through complex issues.

Computer proficiency including Outlook, Excel & Word.

SAP experience.

Strong attention to detail, organizational and prioritization skills.

Ability to multi-task and work in a team environment.

Familiarization with motor carrier transportation, customer service & computer applications

Strong problem resolution and negotiation skills.

Solid listening skills.

Solid relationship building skills with internal & external contacts
