We’re working on smarter grids, cleaner energy and tools to help people manage energy more efficiently.Position Overview:This posting is for an Accounting Advisor position in the Corporate Accounting division within the Controller’s Department of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Finance Organizational Unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for application of technical skills and expertise in general and regulatory accounting to perform and analyze accounting transactions, project manage and implement new accounting treatments, develop financial reports and financial statements, assess accounting impacts of various decisions and actions, perform budget and comparative fluctuation analysis, and lead the charge for solving other accounting-related problems. The Accounting Advisor will recommend and implement process improvements to refine business processes and drive efficiencies and will provide functional leadership to accounting staff.We are recruiting for a position in Corporate Accounting. Areas covered by the position may include (but is not limited to):

Employee benefit plan accounting including pension and post-retirement benefits other than pension (PBOP), 401(k), comprehensive and long-term disability accounting, including financial statement and Form 5500 preparation and filing

Executive compensation accounting, such as executive retirement plans, long-term incentives, deferred compensation, and corporate-owned life insurance accounting

Monthly accrual activities such as long-term debt accounting, prepaid expenses, and deferred revenue amortization

Various aspects of coordinating and handling month-end close, including operations, reporting and plan to actual and comparative variance analysis

Operationalizing new accounting standards as needed, including researching, documenting, and exercising formal project planning among key partners that affects accounting and reporting

Financial and regulatory audit support

Regulatory reporting (FERC, CPUC)

SOX (internal control) processes

Typical responsibilities:

Act as the team lead for key accounting analysis, variance analyses and flux analysis and development of sound explanations as required

Apply knowledge of GAAP accounting, together with strong problem-solving capability, to the areas of accounting described above

Support SCE’s financial reporting disclosure (10-Q/10-K) and MD&A requirements for areas such as benefits, LT Debt, and others as required

Apply knowledge of SCE accounting and SAP to inventively and accurately problem solve and provide guidance to internal and external key personnel (often with little or no precedent). Resolve and document appropriate accounting conclusions.

Provide functional mentorship to Accountants and folks outside the department

Review/approve journal entries and work product of Accountants

Recommend, drive and oversee the implementation of process improvements and other projects to refine and improve business processes and drive efficiencies

You will be the lead for the yearly Corporate Accounting budgeting process

QualificationsMinimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting or related field

Seven (7) or more years of experience in accounting or related field

Ability to research, interpret and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

Experience performing account reconciliations and variance analysis

Proficiency with SAP or similar enterprise software

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with large amounts of data

Desired Qualifications:

Certified Public Accountant (active or inactive)

Experience managing projects from beginning to end.

Experience in a public accounting firm and/or regulated utility

Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate accounting issues and business processes to peers, clients, management, and other organizations.

Ability to work in a team setting to analyze information and develop solutions to a variety of accounting and operational issues

Strong ethics, leadership and interpersonal skills

Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices

The primary work location for this position is Rosemead, California.
