POSITION SUMMARY

The position requires overall responsibility for the service department and all service department employees for the Material Handling division. Oversees the activities of employees engaged in repairing equipment including all types of forklifts, and compact construction equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Directs and oversees the overall service department operation.

Assists employees in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.

Monitors and close work orders as well as ensure warranty, work in process, service bulletins, and other key areas are kept up to date.

Make changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department and work crew.

Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work established and safety goals.

Studies production schedules and estimates hour requirements for completion of job assignment.

Interprets company policies to employees and overall responsibility and enforcement safety regulations and company’s Vision Zero.

Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet schedules.

Recommends measures to improve methods, equipment, performance, and quality of product.

Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists in solving work problems.

Initiates marketing programs to increase business.

Responsible to make and meet budget and market plan.

Other duties may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position requires managing a total of 2 to 3 supervisors in addition to 10 to 20 services employees in the Service Department, in addition to the total responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department.

The Service Manager is responsible for carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud.

COMPENSATION

Exempt, semi-monthly salary with excellent company paid benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, 401(k), profit sharing, nine paid holidays, paid vacation, and paid sick time.
