Position Summary

The Network Systems Engineer is a hybrid role that supports and maintains all technical needs of the enterprise computer and communications network. Their primary areas of concern are: Compute and Storage Hardware, Desktop and Server Virtualization, Data Protection, Database, WAN/LAN/SAN Hardware, Firewalls, Load-balancers, Wireless Network, Network Endpoints and Voice Networks. The Network Systems Engineer’s role is to implement information technology solutions that are reliable, scalable, efficient, secure and promote the greatest degree of interoperability. Wireless technologies and associated devices such as Mobile phones and Tablets. The Network Engineer makes decisions independently on Information Systems solutions, problems and methods while maintaining compliance with all known regulations. The knowledge and expertise required at this level of work usually results from progressive work experience in large enterprise retail, banking, healthcare, or military environments.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Network Systems Engineer is a Subject Matter Expert on Information Systems technologies, standards, methodologies, and procedures. Leads development, implementation, and maintenance of security and network standards and documentation. Participates in developing long-term strategic, capacity and performance planning objectives and goals. Participates in network infrastructure security audit activities and provides evidence as required. Leads network infrastructure security remediation activities. Coordinates efforts to isolate and resolve network and security related issues. Researches new technology and evaluates viability to meet or exceed business requirements and goals.

Working in a healthcare environment with other technology engineers and vendors, the Network Systems Engineer drives and supports the entire life cycle of the following:

Datacenter hardware, including stand alone, chassis based and hyper-converged compute/storage

Virtualization and containerization technologies (e.g. VMware, Citrix, Docker, etc.)

Data Protection procedures and technologies, including (Backup, Archive and Disaster Recovery)

Various Operating Systems (e.g. Windows, Linux, Android, Cisco IOS, Aruba OS, etc.)

Infrastructure and business applications

SQL Database

SAN Fabric

WAN Technologies, such as Routers, BGP, MPLS, DIA and SD-WAN

Campus LAN hardware, including fixed port/modular switches, L2, L3, Stacking, Load-balancing

Deploying and supporting VPN – Site to Site, clientless and client based

Proxy/web filtering solutions

Endpoint identity management and NAC (e.g. Clearpass/ISE)

NGFW, IDS/IPS systems

Deep understand of AAA, TACACS+ and Radius protocols

Internet Connectivity

Server and Network Infrastructure Management and Diagnostic tools

Wireless LAN Deployments, Wi-Fi Network installations and problem management experience desired

Wired and Wireless endpoints, including workstations- both fixed and mobile, printer, VoiP, handheld.

Configuration management of iOS, Android and other operating Mobile platforms.

Device management including Mobile phones, Laptops and Tablets and their operating software.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

Five years of planning, design, and implementation experience in network infrastructure, security and Wi-Fi deployments in medium to large enterprise environments.

In-depth working knowledge of at least 3 of the following network related platforms: Firewalls, routers, LAN switches, load balancing systems, remote access systems, network management and capacity planning systems.

Working knowledge of the following:

Health Insurance portability and Accountability Act of 1996(HIPAA)

Information Security

Threat and vulnerability management and remediation

Datacenter

IP addressing

OSI model

Copper and fiber optic network cabling

LAN/WAN protocols and equipment

Wi-Fi protocols, systems and associated equipment.

Preferred Qualifications and experience with the following desired:

Palo Alto Next Gen/Cisco Firewall platforms

Palo Alto PCNSE/Cisco Certification

Microsoft Certifications

VMware/Citrix Certifications

Comptia Secutiy+ 501 or greater

Threat and vulnerability management and remediation activities

Network infrastructure security incident response

HIPAA and PCI compliance

Packet capture, analysis and troubleshooting tools

Cisco, HP/Aruba and other Wireless Networked environments

Scripting to automate manual functions – Perl/Python

Ability to leverage APIs for automation/customization

Network Management and monitoring tools such as Airwave, Air Magnet, Solarwinds, etc
