If this sounds right up your alley, you may be interested in becoming our newest team member in the fastest growing division of News & Review (N&R). The N&R Publications Department produces a wide range of 4- to 16-page custom publications, which tell the story of an organization through profiles that illustrate its mission. The purpose is to move the readers to action. Our clients are primarily nonprofits, service organizations, and government agencies. A sampling can be seen at www.nrpubs.com. N&R has produced over 450 custom publications that are handed out, inserted into newspapers, and used in various forms of social media.
The N&R Publications Editor will develop the vision for our custom publications and oversee every aspect from storyboard to printing. Managing a team consisting of a Managing Editor, Associate Editor, an Editorial Assistant, in-house Staff Writers, Photographers and Designers, as well as a consistently strong stable of freelance contributors, the Editor will work closely with our Publisher and CEO to continue to strategically meet the needs of our current and future clients. Our amazing team has set a high standard for this product and this position will be expected to bring a high level of creativity, thoughtfulness and flexibility. A key member of our corporate management team, this position will also work closely with the Advertising Managers and Editorial Teams at our other weekly newspapers in Chico, Reno and Sacramento.
This is a full-time exempt management position. N&R Pubs is based in Sacramento. Some regional and state travel is required.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university
Ten years of writing for a publication and at least five years of editing experience
Four years of management experience with a proven track-record of hiring, training and mentoring professional journalists, project managers, creatives and administrators
Experience editing a daily or weekly newspaper, or similar product
Expert editing skills including story formulation and working with a variety of voices
Ability to effectively present information to client stakeholders from high level policy makers to top management to community organizers
Experience managing a department budget and quoting complex projects
Expert copy-editor and a deep knowledge of legal guidelines including libel and invasion-of-privacy laws
Communicate client vision, strategy and plans to management teams and staff
Experience with project management software and supervising multiple complex projects at various stages of development
