Holistic Caregiver For Adorable Special Needs Woman (south Laguna)

California, San diego 00000 San diego USA

Vacancy expired!

HOLISTIC CARE NEEDED FOR MY ADORABLE SPECIAL NEEDS SISTER

Two 24 hour days per week in our home plus one extra scheduled day per month.

Educators of young children find their relationships to my sister to be very rewarding and a good fit for their skills.

THE BASICS:

My joyful and affectionate 63-year-old sister has mental retardation and cerebral palsy. She is like a young child. She loves singing, music, doggies, going to school three afternoons a week, social time and other activities. She is 4'10", 110 lbs, ambulatory, and does not need to be lifted. She also has type 2 diabetes and orthopedic issues.

My sister lives with me in Laguna Beach. Our home has a caregiving suite with sister and caregiver each having her own bedroom and a shared bath. Our home is bright, airy and beautiful.

My need is for the caregiver to be co-responsible with myself and the other caregivers to cover my sister's care 24/7 throughout the year. The caregiver sleeps at my home during her time of duty and then returns to her own home when she is off duty.

My purpose is to provide healthy, joyful, peaceful and loving relationships and living conditions so that my sister can be at her peak of wellness as much as possible now and into the future. I see my sister's beauty and joy and I aspire to help her attain states of joy, peace and general wellness. I'm looking for special, emotionally and intellectually perceptive people, who are also playful, to join me in understanding and assisting my sister so that she can have her own best experience of life.

This is not an average caregiving position. Teacher, parent, loving friend, creative play partner, and music, healing touch, and occupational therapist also describe the role.

SOME DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Creatively takes steps to increase my sister's well-being

- Maintains a safe, peaceful, joyful, orderly and clean home environment

- Provides assistance with activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, teeth-care, and night-time diaper changes

- Meal planning, shopping and preparation

- Blood sugar testing and dispensing medication and supplements

- Records activities, observations, and medicines in journal

- Plans and accompanies on outings; Discovers new outing possibilities

- Drives on outings in caregiver's own vehicle

- Immediately communicates concerns or unusual findings

- Coordinates with the other caregivers

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Professional Caregiving Experience: You have had at least one year professional experience caring for children or special needs individuals. You are interested in a working relationship with us for at least two years.

2. Creative and playful with knowledge of American children's stories and songs: Music is a great therapy tool and my sister loves music. We sing together, she listens to her own music, and we go out for live music. You don't have to be a great singer, but you must be entirely willing to learn the songs and lyrics she loves. While my sister rarely speaks in full sentences, she loves words and language, stories and rhymes. You will be sharing in her language and musical worlds.

3. Excellent food preparation skills, nutritional awareness, and a love of organic, whole food. My sister's care providers are co-creative with me to make my sister's meals healthy and wonderful.

4. Natural healing orientation with good personal self care practices: While we participate in conventional medicine, fundamentally I love natural healing practices. You'll be my partner in helping my sister with whatever medical or physical issues arise. A natural healing orientation means we are on the same page, can contribute to each other's understandings, and can help my sister in ways that seem beautiful to both of us. If you have good self-care practices, you'll know what to offer my sister.

5. Healthy and Energetic: Clothing changes, bed making, etc. requires being in good physical shape. You'll be taking walks with her outside in the sun and at night. You'll need good energy for walks, play time, chores (like laundry, cooking, dishes), night time wake ups, and tuning into my sister's mental framework. Communicable conditions must be disclosed.

6. Able to Parent and Set Boundaries. My sister is like a two year old child. The model of the caregiver as a parent (as well as a pal and assistant) works well. We must have the capacity to recognize helpful courses of action and to provide secure direction. My sister can be obsessive (about music, usually) and she responds well to secure, clear and sensible guidance.

7. Flexible: I need extra help at times when other caregivers are ill or on vacation. We function as a team and pitch in for one another. I do not expect you to be available all of the time, but I do require flexibility and the willingness to work extra. The position with my sister needs to be a priority. The caregiver works on holidays falling within her shifts.

8. Own a safe, reliable automobile; Comfortable driving in the night time as well as the day; Able to find directions; Good driving record. You will be driving my sister in your own vehicle. Mileage will be reimbursed. (I'm planning to acquire an electric vehicle run off solar panels for the caregivers' use, but I'm not sure when.)
